This position is responsible for assisting in the creation and implementation of various programs and services to guests of the Recreation Department. Primary responsibilities include the design, development and/or creation of programs or services, and instruction of skills related to the various programs or services. Implementation of programs and services involves setting up and preparing assigned facility space and equipment, performing light maintenance duties, registration, handling cash, interfacing with participants, coaching, instructing, officiating, scheduling, enforcing department policies and procedures, ensuring safety, and collecting evaluations and patron feedback.Individuals in this position are responsible for instructing climbing and mountain biking programs and lessons, and leading a variety of adventure programs including providing guided hikes and fly fishing.Climbing instruction includes assessing abilities, teaching how to belay, top rope and lead climb, orienting climbers to the bouldering area, conducting climbing wall maintenance and enforcing safety procedures and practices to ensure the safety of climbers and staff.Mountain bike instruction includes assessing abilities, explaining and demonstrating riding techniques, teaching basic bike maintenance and enforcing safety procedures.Hiking instruction includes providing guided hikes and natural and cultural interpretation to locals and visitors of all ages and experience levels.Fly fishing instruction includes assessing abilities, teaching how to tie fishing knots, how to cast, and how to read water.Essential Job FunctionsFor additional information regarding this position including important roles, essential job duties, knowledge, skills and abilities required, materials and equipment used, working environment, and physical activity required please view the full position description.PART-TIME &SEASONAL EMPLOYEE PERKS:Options for a seasonal Recreation Center pass OR Golf Pass.Paid Time Off - Paid out upon departure if unused.Free seasonal Breck E-Ride Bikeshare access.Free electric vehicle (EV) charging at various Town-owned locations.Returning seasonal staff members may be eligible for a merit increase based on meeting performance expectations.Potential furnished seasonal housing available for rent.Town of Breckenridge Core Values:The Town of Breckenridge's Core Values guide us in fostering an inclusive Community, embracing Adaptability and Innovation, upholding Integrity, promoting effective Communication, and practicing Stewardship to responsibly manage Town resources.QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Must be 18 years of age or older.High School diploma required or must be currently enrolled in High School.Must have one (1) year or more of customer service experience.LICENSES, CERTIFICATES OR EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:Basic CPR, AED, and First Aid Certifications are required within 60 days of hire.Preventing Disease Transmission (PDT) required within 60 days of hire.DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Previous experience working in a climbing gym, instructing climbing to students, outdoor climbing, and route setting preferred.Ability to belay a lead climber and lead climb on fixed quick draws at a 5.8 YDS level preferred.One (1) or more years of climbing experience preferred.One (1) or more years of work-related experience instructing or coaching youth activities or sports preferred.Knowledge of safe climbing techniques and a thorough understanding of the safe use of climbing equipment required.Demonstrated knowledge, skills and ability with mountain biking and/or personal hiking and age specific techniques/skills via work history and/or experience preferred.Experience teaching skills related to outdoor recreation, environmental education, or other pertinent outdoor activities preferred.Familiarity with the Town of Breckenridge Open Space Trail System and knowledge of natural resources, local flora and fauna preferred.Nationally recognized climbing instructor certificate attained through organizations such as American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA), Professional Climbing Instructors Association (PCIA), International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations (IFMGA) preferred.Current Wilderness First Aid or more advanced wilderness medicine certification preferred.Computer experience preferred.Additional InformationTypical Hiring Pay Range: $20.50 - $21.75 per hour.WORK SCHEDULEPrimary shifts for this position are generally between the hours of 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., and can be up to 40 hours per week. Work for this Summer Seasonal position starts at the end of May and goes through mid August. Individuals in this position must be flexible in terms of availability, and may on occasion be required to work other shifts as needed, including early morning, late nights, weekends and holidays.This position is 'Open Until Filled'.
