Extruding Operator

POSITION SUMMARYThis position, reporting to the Shift Supervisor, is responsible for all production activities in the extrusion department. The position will focus on product quality, yields, equipment operation, and product delivery. The position is also responsible for assisting Engineering and Quality Assurance in all phases of customer trials, new product design, and testing. This role will also participate in training and continuous improvement initiatives as requested.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Operate MachinerySet-up machine to specifications and best practices to meet product requirementsAdjusts, calibrates, and tests equipment at the beginning of each shift to ensure proper pressure, speed, temperature, and general operationMake minor repairs to equipment when necessaryWorks with other operators to coordinate day-to-day production activities and equipment operationWorks with other operators coordinating machine activity and order processing to ensure quality and on time deliveryProperly utilize enterprise resource planning (ERP) system to ensure product characteristics are logged accuratelyAssists other operators troubleshooting machine and product problems; requests support from Engineering and Maintenance as neededOperate machines in a safe manner and reports any unsafe conditionsMeets or exceeds production goalsIdentify Lean and Process improvement opportunitiesEnsure that the quality of the finished packaging meets the customer's specificationsEnsure that all labeling is accurate and legibleEnsure that quality documents are completed and legible at appropriate stages of productionResolve all nonconforming material and product immediately; follow procedure for identification and quarantine where necessary; and assist in disposition and root cause analysisParticipate in a productive shift turnoverContinually work towards training program completionTrain other operators using the training programUtilize standard work for applicable job functionsEnsure that machine and machine area is kept clean and organized at all timesCoordinate preventive maintenance activity to ensure optimum machine performanceParticipate in Continuous Improvement activitiesResponsible for the setup and execution of trials and recording of results as neededOversee training of new operatorsInteract with customers during meetings and trials in a manner that "Makes our customer happy"Perform any other function or responsibility as assignedAdditional REQUIRED Qualifications/Skills:High School diploma or GED1 to 3 years work experience in a manufacturing environmentExperience in extrusion (to include Blown or Cast film), multi-layer lamination, complex die cutting, tension management, coating, or printingKnowledge of standard measurementsDemonstrates the use of basic math to include addition, subtraction, multiplication, division of decimals, percentages, and fractionsDemonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel and WordExperience operating under a standard work driven quality management systemExcellent written and oral communication skillsAdditional PREFERRED Qualifications/Skills:Self-starter
