**This is a hybrid role - candidates must go into the office 4 days a week located in Phoenix, AZ**Job Description:We are seeking an experienced SQL Server DBA / Azure Database Engineer with strong expertise in SQL clustering, Azure PaaS databases, database security, and Microsoft-based assessments. The role will support mission-critical databases across hybrid and cloud environments, ensuring high availability, performance, security, and compliance.The ideal candidate will have deep hands-on experience with SQL Server on-prem and Azure-native database platforms, along with the ability to perform health, performance, and security assessments aligned to Microsoft best practices.Key Responsibilities:SQL Server & Database AdministrationInstall, configure, upgrade, and maintain SQL Server environments (2016+)Manage and support high availability and disaster recovery solutions including:SQL Server Failover Cluster Instances (FCI)Always On Availability GroupsLog Shipping / ReplicationPerform proactive monitoring, tuning, and performance optimizationTroubleshoot complex database issues related to performance, blocking, corruption, or outagesAzure PaaS Databases:Design, deploy, and manage Azure PaaS database services, including:Azure SQL DatabaseAzure SQL Managed InstanceAzure Database for SQL workloadsLead or support database migration efforts from on‑prem SQL Server to Azure PaaSImplement scalability, backups, high availability, and DR using Azure-native capabilitiesOptimize database performance and cost management in AzureClustering & High Availability:Design and support SQL Server clustering solutions in on‑prem and Azure IaaS environmentsManage Windows Server Failover Clustering (WSFC)Ensure uptime and reliability for business-critical database systemsParticipate in DR planning, testing, and failover exercisesDatabase Security:Implement and manage database security controls, including:Authentication and authorizationRole-based access controlEncryption at rest and in transit (TDE, TLS)Data masking and auditingIntegrate database security with:Azure Active Directory (Entra ID)Azure Key Vault (for secrets and keys)Identify and remediate vulnerabilities through security reviews and best practicesMicrosoft Assessments & Governance:Conduct Microsoft SQL Server and Azure Database assessments, including:Health checksPerformance assessmentsSecurity and compliance reviewsLeverage Microsoft tools and frameworks such as:Data Migration Assistant (DMA)Azure MigrateMicrosoft Defender for SQLProvide actionable recommendations based on assessment findingsSupport compliance initiatives aligned to enterprise and Microsoft standardsAutomation & Collaboration:Develop and maintain scripts for automation using PowerShell, T-SQLSupport CI/CD pipelines for database deploymentsCollaborate with application, infrastructure, and security teamsMentor junior DBAs and provide operational guidanceRequired Qualifications:8+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA or Database EngineerStrong experience with SQL Server clustering and HA/DRHands-on experience with Azure PaaS database servicesStrong understanding of database security principlesExperience conducting Microsoft-based database assessmentsExpertise in performance tuning and troubleshootingExperience in enterprise, high‑availability environmentsPreferred QualificationsAzure certifications (AZ‑104, AZ‑305, DP‑300)Experience with hybrid cloud database architecturesKnowledge of DevOps database deployment practicesExposure to audits, compliance, and regulatory environmentsPrior experience in a Lead DBA or Senior Engineer roleAbout SogetiPart of the Capgemini Group, Sogeti makes business value through technology for organizations that need to implement innovation at speed and want a local partner with global scale.
