YOU MUST UPDATE ANY NEW EMPLOYMENT HISTORY WHEN YOU APPLY FOR NEW JOBS.DescriptionThe purpose of this classification is to perform skilled work to inspect, test and repair various operating systems within the distribution, transmission and substation systems of the electric system, and to perform general and detailed maintenance tasks in the care of the substation grounds.Examples of DutiesOperates, repairs, and performs general and comprehensive maintenance of electric substations; inspects equipment; checks fluid levels; replaces fluids; greases equipment; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment to supervisor.Tests, adjusts and performs maintenance of major highway lighting and surveillance camera systems.Confers with supervisor to obtain direction regarding work assignments and priorities; organizes tasks in order to complete assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; coordinates activities of contractors working in substations or on transmission system.Installs wiring for new installations and rewires existing components in substation maintenance and upgrades.Operates and maintains SCADA systemPerforms grounds keeping tasks in the maintenance of electric substations: mows grass, trims edges, sprays chemicals to remove vegetation, removes trash, etc.Operates test equipment including cable fault locator, cable tester, oil tester, and relay test set; operates related equipment and tools including a bucket truck, track hoe, oil pump, fork lift, wire puller, oil filter press, fault locator, pressure sprayer, relays, and various hand and electrical tools.Performs daily checks of substation for problems; monitors SCADA print out for system disruptions; checks substations to confirm disruption location and determine cause of problem.Handles, prepares and/or maintains the appropriate paperwork necessary to the functions of this position: receives and/or reviews diagnostic reports, maintenance reports, electrical system data, structural drawings, relay timing charts, etc.; prepares work orders, maintenance data, and purchase orders.Operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data, utilizing Microsoft Office, Excel, Cascade, or other software; and operates other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.Typical QualificationsHigh School diploma or GED, with vocational or technical electrical training; supplemented by one (1) year of commercial or industrial electrical experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess a valid driver's license. Will be required to obtain and maintain a valid State of Louisiana driver's license at time of appointment.
