Shift 1 (United States of America)Summary/ObjectiveThe Mechanical Engineer II will be responsible for performing complex engineering assignments related to the research, design, and development of plastics processing machinery. The opportunity for increased independent decision-making and action will come with experience and familiarity with the equipment and market.Essential FunctionsContribute to the overall machine concept and layoutEngineer parts and subassemblies with the guidance of a senior engineerDevelop cost-effective designs that meet specification criteria and performance requirementsAssist in debugging designs and machineryResponsible for the preparation of product or system layouts, detailed drawings, and schematicsChecks designs and details for technical accuracy and recommends revisions or concept expansion for problem resolutionsProvides technical support for manufacturing and assemblyDevelops test plans and experimental programs.Confers with Validation, Run-off, and other engineering personnel. Prepares design modifications as requiredLiaison with customers or vendors as required exchanging information on product or system capabilityHas an understanding of estimating time on tasks, setting priorities, planning short term and long-term goals, project monitoring, and time managementCompetenciesHas sufficient familiarity with Reliability and Maintainability principles, tools, and techniques to appropriately design into new or modified productsKnowledge and understanding of the use of computer assisted design equipment. Creo, Windchill, and Mathcad are a plus.Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, and test reports.Ability to communicate, in writing, facts and information clearly, accurately and with significance. Typical written communications include department reports, engineer meeting notes, design reviews, memos, trip reports, and recommendations of procedures and methods. Ability to effectively present information to top management in both verbal and written formMathematical knowledge and application to mechanical, hydraulic, electromechanical, and electrical equipment design. Must be capable of performing strength of materials, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, power transmission, and simple hydraulic computationsAbility to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusionsEducation/ExperienceBachelor’s Degree in Engineering2-4 years relevant experience in capital equipment or heavy machinery design. Plastics industry a plus.Work Environment/ Physical DemandsEmployee may be exposed to moving equipment, mechanical parts in motion, risk of shock and other hazards associated with a manufacturing environment such as overhead cranes, welding, machining, painting etc.Vision requires close focus, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and focus adjustmentPosition Type/Expected Hours of WorkThis is a full-time- exempt position.
