Endoscopy Center - RN - PRN

Job Title: Registered Nurse, GI Status: PRN Hours: Variable Reports to: Team Leader/ Surgicenter Director Purpose of Job: Responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient-family centered care in the GI lab for all patient populations. Assist physicians with GI procedures. Qualifications Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing with a current Tennessee nursing license Basic Life Support certified required; ACLS recommended. Previous experience in a GI setting (1 year minimum) recommended. Must be in overall good health with satisfactory hearing and eyesight; must be able to bend reach, and lift 50 lbs. using good body mechanics. Must be able to work a minimum of 6 shifts during a 6 week period. Must be self-motivated, professional and maintain a positive attitude Must have good verbal and written communication skills Primary Responsibilities Supports the mission, vision, and values of the organization. Delivers direct nursing care to patients utilizing the nursing process. Assesses patients upon arrival and throughout the procedure. Prepares rooms, equipment, and supplies to accommodate patient load. Assists the physician with procedures. Monitors the patient before, during, and after the procedure. Maintains the patients' privacy, confidentiality, and security. Acts as a patient advocate in coordination of patient care. Utilizes supplies, equipment, and resources to contain costs without compromising delivery of care. Reduces chance of hospital acquired infection by directing attention to infection prevention and environmental safety practices. Evaluates the patient's progress toward attaining outcomes. Transfers care as needed. Delegates tasks according to the state Nurse Practice Act (if applicable), state board of nursing or professional registration requirements, state laws, and job descriptions. Documents nursing care completely, accurately, and legibly. Collaborates effectively with other disciplines as needed. Participates in quality review and performance improvement projects. Participates in the performance appraisal process. Evaluates the patient's progress toward attaining outcomes. Transfers care as needed. Uses critical thinking, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with team members. Maintains required competencies. Pursues professional growth. Communicates pertinent information and suggestions to team leader. Prioritizes tasks by importance and demand. Follows employee handbook guidelines in regards to sick time, vacation, and dress code. Assists with orientation of new personnel. Working Conditions/Physical Requirements: Exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, and repetitive motions Physically demanding, high-stress environment Variety of standing, walking, lifting, bending, stooping, twisting Must be able to stand 6-8 hours/day Hand and eye coordination Manual and finger dexterity Corrected vision and hearing to within normal range Pushing and pulling heavy objects Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds Working irregular hours This description is intended to provide only basic guidelines for meeting job requirements.
