Ensures adherence to Hospital and Departmental Policies and Procedures. Patient care assignment may include; Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric Age Groups.Detailed responsibilities:PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocolsORIENTATION - Assist in orienting new employees as requiredEQUIPMENT & SUPPLIES - Monitor and stock supply areas; maintain equipment as appropriateMEETINGS - Attend education sessions, department and other meetings as appropriateRELATED WORK - Perform related duties and responsibilities as requiredPATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processesPATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue riskPATIENT CARE - Perform patient care assignments; triage emergency care; stabilize and/or prepare patient for transport; document all patent care activitiesALS - Provide advanced life support to include oral/nasal endotracheal intubation, needle thoracostomy, needle/surgical cricothyroidotomy, introsseous catheter insertion, pericardiocentesis; perform 12-lead EKG's and chemical blood glucose testsPATIENT CARE - Perform peripheral venous puncture, blood draws, and IV fluid therapy and drug administrationCARDIAC - Provide cardiac monitoring; initiate or assist with cardioversion or defibrillationPATIENT CARE - Administer intramuscular and subcutaneous injections, topical application or sublingual administration of medications; provide for nebulized drug administrationPATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely mannerPATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"CUSTOMER RELATIONS - Establish and maintain good rapport and effective working relationships with patients, visitors, physicians and Hospitals employeesQUALITY - Participate in department quality programsQualificationsEducation:Essential:High School or GED EquivalentExperience:Essential:No minimum experience requiredNonessential:No preferred experienceCredentials:Essential:CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof RescuersAdvanced Cardiac Life Support CertificationEmergency Medical Technician Paramedic LicenseNonessential:Nationally Registered Paramedic LicenseBasic Arrhythmia Cert w/in 1 yearPhysical Conditions:Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people.
