Sanders Brothers Construction Company is seeking a Field Engineer for our sitework operations. The Machine Control and Site Modeling Field Engineer will support our sitework operations through GPS machine control systems, 3D modeling, and field surveying.Roles and Responsibilities
Assist with setup and calibration of GPS machine control systems (Topcon/Trimble)Support troubleshooting of base, rover, and machine control issues
Verify grade using rover and assist in comparing against machine control
Help ensure systems are operating correctly and report issues to senior staff
Assist field personnel with basic operation and checks of machine control systems
Assist in preparing and loading 3D models for field use
Support conversion of plans and survey data into machine-ready files
Work with senior staff to identify and correct model discrepancies
Assist with surface comparisons and basic quantity tracking
Learn and apply proper use of coordinate systems, datums, and units
Assist with establishing and checking control points
Support closed traverse and GPS localization efforts
Perform basic layout, staking, and grade checks
Collect topographic data using GPS equipment
Verify field conditions against plans and report discrepancies
Work with Superintendents, Foremen, and Field Managers to support daily operations
Assist in interpreting plans and applying them in the field
Help improve workflow efficiency through proper use of machine control
Coordinate with crews to support grading, utilities, and other sitework activities
Assist with drone flights for site mapping and progress tracking
Support processing of aerial data for modeling use
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Basic experience or exposure to Topcon and/or Trimble systems, surveying, or sitework
Understanding of construction plans and basic layout principles
Working knowledge of machine control systems, site modeling, or GPS field technology
Strong willingness to learn and develop technical skills
Good communication and ability to work in a team environment
High school diploma/GED required
Must have a valid driver's license
Must obtain a negative drug test result prior to hire and maintain throughout term of employment.
Must meet SBCC's employment standards regarding background checks.
Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 40 pounds of force regularly to move objects.
Ability to regularly lift 50 pounds. * Must have the ability to stand for long periods of time.
Flexible availability to include work hours needed to meet schedule, including nights, and weekends.
Work environments will vary, making it necessary to tolerate weather conditions, such as rain and extreme temperatures.
Employees may be exposed to dust, dirt, varying temperatures, loud noises, etc.
Preferred Skills
Experience with Civil 3D, Carlson, Trimble Business Center, or MAGNET
Exposure to GPS surveying or machine control systems
FAA Part 107 Drone License (or interest in obtaining)
Field experience in grading, utilities, or earthwork
Bachelor's degree
