Medical Director Physician

Internal Medicine Medical Director (MD/DO) Position Summary The Internal Medicine Medical Director provides clinical leadership and oversight for internal medicine services while maintaining an active clinical practice. This role is responsible for ensuring high-quality, evidence-based patient care; advancing quality, safety, and operational performance; and supporting physician engagement, professional development, and alignment with organizational goals. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Clinical LeadershipProvide medical leadership and direction for internal medicine physicians and advanced practice providersMaintain an active clinical practice in internal medicine (outpatient, inpatient, or mixed, as applicable)Promote evidence-based clinical standards, best practices, and consistent care deliveryQuality, Safety, and PerformanceLead quality improvement, patient safety, and clinical outcomes initiativesMonitor and improve clinical performance metrics, patient satisfaction, and utilizationSupport compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and professional standardsOperational and Administrative OversightCollaborate with operational leadership on clinic or service line efficiency, access, and workflow optimizationParticipate in strategic planning, program development, and service line growthAssist with provider scheduling, staffing models, and resource allocationSupport implementation of clinical policies, protocols, and care pathwaysPhysician and APP LeadershipRecruit, onboard, mentor, and retain internal medicine providersFoster a culture of professionalism, collaboration, and continuous improvementProvide performance feedback, coaching, and support for professional developmentParticipate in peer review and credentialing processes as requiredCollaboration and CommunicationServe as a liaison between internal medicine providers and administrative leadershipCollaborate with specialty services, care management, nursing leadership, and ancillary departmentsSupport care coordination and transitions across the continuum of careEducation and InnovationSupport clinical education, quality improvement education, and practice transformation initiativesParticipate in teaching or academic activities if applicable to the organization Qualifications Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical schoolCompletion of an accredited Internal Medicine residency programBoard-certified in Internal MedicineAbility to obtain and maintain unrestricted state medical licensureDemonstrated leadership experience or formal training in medical leadership preferredDEA registration or eligibility Skills and Competencies Strong clinical expertise in internal medicineProven leadership, team-building, and change-management skillsExcellent communication and conflict-resolution abilitiesAbility to balance clinical, administrative, and strategic responsibilitiesKnowledge of healthcare quality, safety, and regulatory standardsCommitment to patient-centered, value-based care Work Environment Outpatient clinics, hospital inpatient units, or combined settings depending on practice modelSchedule includes a mix of clinical care, administrative leadership duties, and meetings Physical Requirements Ability to sit, stand, and move throughout clinical and administrative environmentsManual dexterity for examinations and clinical tasksVisual and auditory acuity sufficient for patient care, documentation, and meetings
