Portway Tavern, a Union Town Historic Landmark with a century of serving good food and spirits within its walls is looking for new crew members to continue the traditions and help escort it into the next 100 years. Acquired by new owners in early 2023, we’ve been busy making some necessary improvements to the facilities (new kitchen refrigeration, cooking appliances, and more) while maintaining what makes this local haunt so special. We’ve got a lot more work ahead of us and some exciting expansion plans cooking up too! We can’t wait for you to come aboard!
Line Cook
The skinny
Pay range $17-$19 hr base + ~$8-$12 per hr in tip share.
Part-time, flexible schedule, (24 hrs per week min, 38 hrs max)
2-3 years of equivalent work experience is preferred.
Experience with Tavern establishments that turn out high order volume a plus.
Ability to maintain facilities and adhere to all health code requirements.
Valid OR food handlers card.
Must be 21 years old or older.
You’re a hardworking Plating Prodigy (Line Cook) that would make Ryan Gosling seem uptight under pressure. First and foremost, you’ll bring a strong work ethic to our team and attention to detail to ensure consistency and quality applies to every dish served. A knowledge of various cooking techniques, knife skills and a passion for the culinary craft just adds to your list of Saucy Sorcerer abilities. Ultimately, you’ll demonstrate excellent communication, time management skills, and multi-tasking abilities to get the job done while taking pride in maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
Expectations
Preparing simple components of each dish on the menu by chopping vegetables, cutting meat, and preparing sauces.
Cooking menu items utilizing all stations and equipment with and without the support of BOH staff.
Making sure food preparation and storage areas meet health and safety standards.
Ensuring the preparation station and the kitchen are set up and stocked.
Cleaning prep areas, cooking equipment and taking care of leftovers.
Reporting to the manager/owner and following direction.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
Certificate in culinary arts or related field a plus.
2-3 years of equivalent work experience is preferred.
In-depth knowledge of restaurant best practices and cooking methods.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Aptitude for multi-tasking.
Must be able to work cooperatively and efficiently in a team.
