Operations Manager at High-growth Biotech Startup
Biotech data infrastructure platform is looking for an Operations Manager. With plans to grow from 23 to 60 in the next few months, this is an exciting time to join their collaborative team during a pivotal growth phase and tackle diverse, high-impact projects.In this role, you'll own systems thinking and process optimization across the organization, evaluating workflows and implementing changes that enable scaling. You'll own a range of projects, including implementing new systems (ATS, expenses), reviewing customer MSAs and flagging risks, project managing compliance initiatives, evaluating operational decisions, lending support to hiring and recruiting and planning bi-yearly team off-sites. Someone with strong communication skills to effectively engage across diverse teams who is proactive, works well in ambiguity, is resourceful, and is excited to take on new challenges. Previous experience in a similar role in strategy and scaling operations at a fast-paced startup is preferred. This role has significant growth potential as the company continues to scale. This is an in-office role based in Mission Bay with a beautiful waterfront office. 160-180K+ DOE + equity, benefits, 401k, unlimited PTO, daily meals, great office amenities (including gym on-site), and fun team off-sites. Responsibilities:Lead systems-level evaluation and redesign of operations to support rapid growth, ensuring processes scale effectively across interconnected teams and functions. Apply strong systems thinking to assess company-wide workflows, identify gaps, and implement lightweight, practical solutions aligned with executive priorities. Review and assess contracts and agreements, flagging legal or operational risks and surfacing key considerations for leadership. Research, evaluate, and implement core operational tools such as applicant tracking systems, expense management platforms, and internal documentation frameworks. Own and project-manage complex initiatives, including compliance requirements, audits, and cross-functional implementations. Plan and execute company events and off-sites, managing logistics, vendors, and coordination across teams. Evaluate and improve financial and administrative processes, including treasury diversification and expense management. Review and provide thoughtful feedback on company-facing materials such as websites and internal documentation. Support hiring efforts by conducting screening calls and coordinating high-volume recruiting initiatives across technical and non-technical roles. Tackle ambiguous, high-impact projects independently, anticipating needs and driving solutions from concept through execution. Qualifications:Previous experience in Operations, Strategy, or consulting role at a scaling, fast-paced startup. Highly proactive, execution-focused operator who takes full ownership of work and drives outcomes independently. Strong strategic and systems thinker with the ability to approach problems bottom-up and design scalable, lightweight processes. Comfortable operating in fast-paced, ambiguous environments and energized by solving complex, unfamiliar challenges. Resourceful problem solver with strong judgment and the ability to prioritize effectively. High EQ with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely across diverse stakeholders and disciplines. Scrappy, adaptable, and process-oriented, with a pragmatic approach to building systems that people will actually use. Genuine interest in and comfort working within a highly technical environment.
