Position: Secondary Assistant Principal (Grades 6-12)Campus: To Be DeterminedWage/Hour Status: ExemptImmediate Supervisor(s): Campus PrincipalPay Grade: Per Compensation ManualDays Employed: Per Compensation ManualPOSITION SUMMARY:Assist the school Principal in the overall administration of instructional program operations at the campus levelCoordinate assigned student activities and servicesQUALIFICATIONS:Education/Certification:Master's degree in educational administrationTexas Principal or other appropriate Texas certificateCertified T-TESS AppraiserSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Knowledge of campus operationsWorking knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and assessmentAbility to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectivenessAbility to manage personnelAbility to coordinate campus functions/programsAbility to implement policy and proceduresAbility to interpret dataStrong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skillsExperience:Three (3) years of experience as a classroom teacherMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:Instructional:Encourage and support the development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers pilot such efforts when appropriateParticipate in program evaluation measures and make suggestions for improvement where neededReinforce expectations for staff performance with regard to instructional strategies and classroom managementFoster collegiality and team-building among staff members and encourage their active involvement in the decision-making processSchool/Organizational Improvement:Take a leadership role in planning activities and implementing programs to ensure attainment of the school's missionParticipate in the development of campus improvement plans with staff, parents, and community membersAssist the Principal in the development and use of information systems to track progress on-campus performance objectives and Academic Excellence IndicatorsPerform all other duties as assigned by the principalStudent Management:May act as campus behavioral coordinator in accordance with state laws and regulationsWork with faculty and students to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior and enhances the school climateEnsure that school rules are uniformly applied, and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable in accordance with the DISD Student Code of Conduct and the Student HandbookConduct conferences about student and school issues with parents, students, and teachersEnsure students are adequately supervised during non-instructional periods and during/after-school and/or extracurricular activitiesAdministration & Fiscal/Facilities Management:Oversee campus operations in the Principal's absenceTake a leadership role in the planning and scheduling of daily school activities, including the development of class schedules, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activity schedulesOversee reporting and monitoring of student attendance and work with staff to identify and address issuesRequisition supplies, textbooks, equipment, and monitor/maintain inventory in accordance with district proceduresCoordinate operational support services such as transportation, custodial, and cafeteria to best meet campus needsComply with district policies, state and federal laws, and regulations affecting schoolsPersonnel Management:Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences as needed for the designated teacher appraisal systemAssist the Principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staffProfessional Growth & Development:Develop professional skills appropriate with job assignmentDemonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior.
