Responsible for assisting with and implementing special education instructional programs, and following state and federal policies regarding special education procedures.This position supports students with high-intensity needs by providing structured, individualized instruction in daily living skills, functional communication, and behavioral regulation. The role includes supervising and coaching instructional assistants to ensure consistent implementation of evidence-based practices and student supports. Responsibilities also include collecting and analyzing student data to monitor progress and inform instruction, as well as contributing to the development and writing of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The position requires close collaboration with educators, related service providers, and families to maintain a safe, supportive learning environment and to help students build independence and meaningful skills across school settings.Qualifications: KSA's, EducationKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:Demonstrates accurate knowledge of evidence based teaching practices as well as data collection and its utilization. Demonstrates accurate knowledge of the learning and behavioral characteristics of the disabilities of the students with whom they work. Experience working in an educational setting with students with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Specific knowledge of functional and adapted academic instruction, assistive technology, interventions to support communication and social skills development. Familiarity with the Virginia Aligned Standards of Learning, or comparable modified curricula and instruction on Activities of Daily Living. Able to provide instruction to students with extensive support needs in a collaborative setting, promoting inclusive practices. Knowledge of special education laws, policies and practices.Education and Experience:Required: Bachelors Degree in appropriate related field. Must have a record of successful full-time teaching experience or have demonstrated a successful student teaching placement/internship. Current or Eligible for Virginia Teaching License in Special Education Adapted Curriculum.Preferred: Masters Degree. BCBA or RBT credentials or experience with ABA. Experience working in a classroom setting with students with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Experienced in moderating IEP meetings.A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.Terms of EmploymentWork Schedule: 10M - 217 Days - 7.25 Hrs.Salary Scale: TeacherSpeical Requirements: Must hold or be eligible for Va. Occasional lifting of equipment such as audio-visuals, regular stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching and significant pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions are also required. Required to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine.
