Bookkeeper

Position Overview: The Bookkeeper is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting and bookkeeping functions of the organization. This role ensures accurate financial records, timely reporting, compliance with accounting policies, and effective management of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll support, and account reconciliations. The Bookkeeper serves as a key resource to management by providing financial insights and maintaining the integrity of financial data.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting & Bookkeeping
Maintain accurate general ledger records and financial transactions.
Record and reconcile bank, credit card, and loan accounts.
Prepare and post journal entries.
Monitor and maintain fixed asset schedules.
Maintain account reconciliations and supporting schedules, including prepaids, fixed assets, accruals, and other balance sheet accounts.
Assist with the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes by preparing supporting documentation and ensuring timely completion of assigned tasks.
Ensure accurate coding and classification of financial transactions.
Manage month-end and year-end closing activities.
Accounts Payable
Process vendor invoices and employee expense reports.
Maintain vendor records and payment schedules.
Prepare and process electronic payments and checks.
Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies.
Accounts Receivable
Generate customer invoices and statements.
Monitor collections and follow up on outstanding balances.
Apply payments and maintain accurate customer records.
Investigate and resolve billing discrepancies.
Financial Reporting
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
Assist in budgeting and forecasting processes.
Analyze variances and identify trends.
Provide financial information and reports to management as requested.
Compliance & Internal Controls
Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting procedures.
Help maintain and update accounting procedures, process documentation, and internal control practices to support accuracy and consistency.
Support external audits and tax preparation activities.
Maintain documentation and records in accordance with regulatory requirements.
Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy
Qualifications:
Required
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
5+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience.
Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience handling full-cycle bookkeeping.
Experience in a senior or lead bookkeeping role preferred.
Experience working with multiple entities, departments, or cost centers is a plus.
Technical Skills
Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar ERP systems.
Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including pivots, lookups, and financial reporting.
Familiarity with payroll systems and electronic banking platforms.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong understanding of accounting principles and bookkeeping practices.
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
