This role advances positive student behavior, ensures equitable discipline practices, and supports safe, inclusive school environments. Work is performed under general supervision, with oversight of the Director of Student Services personnel.Essential Job FunctionsAssist in the development and implementation of student conduct policies, procedures, and support programs.Support schools in adopting proactive and restorative approaches to student discipline, including behavioral interventions and de-escalation strategies.Collaborate with school administrators to ensure consistent and equitable application of the Code of Student Conduct.Support the Director of Student Services in coordinating division-wide initiatives related to:Student behaviorAttendanceSchool climateGuide administrators on:Disciplinary actionsDue processStudent rightsAssist in reviewing, investigating, and resolving discipline appeals, complaints, and grievances.Coordinate and support alternative education programs and interventions for students with behavioral needs.Analyze discipline, attendance, and climate data to:Identify trendsInform decision-makingDevelop targeted interventionsAssist in ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations.Collaborate with cross-functional departments (e.g., Special Education, Student Services, Academic Support) to support diverse student needs.Support crisis response and behavioral threat assessment processes, as needed.Design and deliver professional learning for administrators and staff on:Student conductDe-escalation strategiesRestorative discipline practicesAssist in monitoring departmental programs and supporting budget oversight.Serve as a liaison between schools, families, and community agencies to promote student success and well-being.Oversee and coordinate home-based instruction related to disciplinary actions.Facilitate the division's after-hours incident reporting line to ensure timely, confidential communication with key stakeholders.Serve as the lead Student Services representative for Comprehensive School Improvement Plans (CSIPs) in schools requiring intensive support.Attend School Board meetings and disciplinary hearings, as required.Perform other related duties as assigned.Minimum QualificationsMaster's degree in Educational Administration, School Counseling, Social Work, or a related fieldMinimum of five years of successful experience in public education, preferably in:School administrationStudent servicesDiscipline-related leadership rolesAny equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and skillsPossession of, or ability to obtain, appropriate licensure and endorsements as required by the Commonwealth of VirginiaKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of student behavior management, restorative practices, and discipline frameworksUnderstanding of public school systems and applicable laws and regulationsStrong conflict resolution, problem-solving, and decision-making skillsEffective written and verbal communication skills, including facilitating difficult conversationsAbility to analyze data and translate findings into actionable plansAbility to build and maintain effective relationships with administrators, staff, students, families, and community partnersCommitment to equitable practices and inclusive school environmentsWorking Conditions & Physical Requirements
