Baker
Uppercrust, Gainesville’s community artisan bakery since 1981 seeks three bakers! Please read to the bottom if you are interested in applying.
These position assumes no professional/commercial baking experience, and can be part or full time. We're heading into the busy season, and we are looking to train three new team members to be ready to rock at the end of September. You will be trained by kitchen shift leads and managers or trusted team members who work the station daily.
The positions are in prep, pastry, and bread. They are separate positions. They will depend on our existing team’s cross training interests and yours.
Prep is responsible for preparing doughs, fillings, and toppings for our croissant, bistro, and pastry stations. Pastry is responsible for tartelette, cake, macaron and eclair prep, and could be trained on pastry production once the baker has proven autonomy on pastry prep. Bread is responsible for mixing, proofing, and shaping bread.
Disclaimer: this is physical work, with early hours. It's fun to work at our bakery! But it's also hard. The number one thing you and Uppercrust will want to find out together is whether you want to _work _at our bakery - and all the lifting, cleaning, organizing, and performance pressure that entails - as well as spend time at our bakery.
Our bakers are expected to:
* Wake up _early_
* Lift 50 pound flour bags, heavy bins, and stacks of sheet pans
* Work on their feet throughout the day
* Wash their own dishes
* Maintain a clean, organized station through the day
The following experience is helpful, but not required:
* Experience with knife work
* Experience with commercial prep work
* Experience with clean, organized work flow in a commercial kitchen setting
We have trained many superb bakers from scratch. A good work ethic and curious attitude are qualities that stand out in new and seasoned team members.
Benefits include:
* Free samples of product you haven't tried
* Free daily bread
* Free iced coffee
* Paid training
* Paid breaks
* Raises after assessments on kitchen stations
* Cross training
* Raises for length of time worked (every 3 months full time, 6 months part time)
* Paid time off vests after 250 days worked
* HSA-eligible contributions vest after 150 days worked
* Full time work (35+ hours) assured if desired
* Cash tips pooled weekly
* A serious-minded, hard working management team, invested in your success and the bakery's success
