Civil Engineer
Job Title: Project Manager – Civil Engineering (Land Development) Department: Civil Engineering Reports To: Director of Engineering / Senior Project Manager FLSA Status: ExemptPosition SummaryThe Project Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering land development projects from concept through construction. This role manages project scope, schedule, budget, and client communication while leading a team of engineers, designers, and support staff.The Project Manager ensures that all work meets technical standards, regulatory requirements, and client expectations. Success in this role requires strong civil engineering knowledge, effective leadership, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.Key ResponsibilitiesProject ManagementManage land development projects including residential, commercial, and mixed-use developmentsDevelop and monitor project schedules, budgets, and work plansCoordinate internal teams and external consultants to ensure timely project deliveryIdentify risks and implement solutions to keep projects on trackManage scope changes and maintain clear project documentationTechnical OversightOversee preparation of engineering plans, reports, and specificationsProvide guidance on site design, grading, drainage, utilities, and stormwater managementEnsure designs comply with local, state, and federal regulationsReview and approve technical deliverables prior to submissionClient & Stakeholder CoordinationServe as primary point of contact for clients, agencies, and stakeholdersLead meetings, presentations, and project updatesCoordinate with municipalities and regulatory agencies for permitting and approvalsMaintain strong client relationships and ensure satisfactionFinancial ManagementTrack project budgets, invoices, and profitabilityPrepare and review proposals, contracts, and change ordersMonitor project performance and implement corrective actions as neededTeam LeadershipLead and support engineers, designers, and technical staffDelegate tasks and ensure effective workload distributionProvide mentorship, guidance, and performance feedbackSupport a collaborative and productive team environmentRequired Skills & CompetenciesStrong knowledge of land development design, including grading, drainage, utilities, and site layoutFamiliarity with permitting processes and regulatory requirementsExcellent project management, organizational, and multitasking skillsStrong communication and interpersonal abilitiesProblem-solving mindset with attention to detailAbility to manage multiple projects and deadlinesTechnical SkillsProficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3DExperience with hydrology and hydraulic modeling software (e.g., HydroCAD, ICPR, or similar)Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Project)Education & ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field5–10+ years of experience in civil engineering with a focus on land developmentProfessional Engineer (PE) license preferred (or ability to obtain)Experience managing projects and coordinating with clients and agencies
