Administrative Associate

Duties for this PositionSuccessful applicant will serve as the Administrative Assistant to the Horry County Veterans Affairs Department. The primary list of duties and responsibilities for this position includes but is not limited to the following:Greet incoming Veterans and their family members.Answer and direct all telephone calls.Schedule appointments for staff members using the Microsoft Outlook Calendar System.Produce and distribute all pertinent office correspondence.Maintains knowledge of various benefits and services available and regulations governing their administration.Assists in resolving problems encountered by veterans by searching out information as necessary.Processes incoming applications, ensures necessary documents are submitted, and performs data entry as necessary.Answers questions in person and over the telephone regarding program policies, practices, and operations.Composes, prepares and proofreads confidential correspondence, reports, and other complex documents; files correspondence and other reports; acts as custodian of Veterans documents and records.Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems.Complies with all County, State and Federal policies.Other duties as assigned by the Director.Position Minimum RequirementsAbility to:Understand, interpret, and apply federal laws and regulationsUnderstand and interpret medical records and statementsPrepare written statements on behalf of claimantsAssist in preparation of oral presentations on behalf of claimantsExpress technical information in clear oral or written mannerPossess the organizational skills to handle multiple complex claims simultaneouslyGet along in a professional manner with clients, co-workers, and other personnelUse computer for word processing, the Vetraspec Database program, and other appropriate softwareLift and carry up to ten pounds regularly, up to fifty pounds intermittentlyPush and pull five- high file drawers regularlyAdditional InformationA Bachelor’s degree is preferred; however, an applicant may be considered who possesses an Associate’s Degree with at least 5 years work experience directly related to the listed duties and responsibilities.
