DescriptionJOB SUMMARYAt Camarillo Public Library, we are looking for a motivated, creative, and community-focused individual to join our team as a Librarian Intern. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about libraries, literacy, and public service and wants to gain hands-on experience in a welcoming and innovative public library environment.As a Librarian Intern, you will work alongside experienced librarians and library staff while gaining exposure to many areas of library operations, including reference services, circulation, programming, collection support, and community engagement. You will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by helping create engaging experiences for patrons of all ages.The primary focus of this position will be supporting Youth and Adult Services programming, outreach efforts, and special events at the library. The successful candidate will play an active role in program planning, activity coordination, collection support, and creating a positive and welcoming experience for the Camarillo community.This internship is ideal for someone exploring a career in public libraries, education, literacy, or community services and looking to build valuable professional experience in a collaborative and supportive environment.To be considered for this opportunity, candidates must be currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Library Science or be able to provide proof of acceptance into an ALA-accredited MLIS program within three (3) months of hire.Hours per week: 40Primary ResponsibilitesAssist patrons with reference questions, research requests, and locating library materials and resources Support circulation operations, including checking materials in and out and helping patrons navigate library systems and technology Assist with collection development and maintenance activities, including shelving, organizing, and cataloging materials Collaborate with library staff to plan, prepare, and support library programs, events, and community activities for patrons of all ages Support outreach efforts by promoting library services, programs, and resources within the community Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and ongoing library projects while gaining hands-on public library experience Provide excellent customer service and help create a welcoming, inclusive, and engaging environment for all patrons Perform other related duties as assigned by supervising librarians or library leadershipRequirementsCurrently pursuing a Master’s degree in Library Science or able to provide proof of acceptance into an ALA-accredited MLIS program within three (3) months of hire Passion for public libraries, literacy, and community engagement Strong customer service skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations and age groups Familiarity with library systems, databases, cataloging practices, and circulation functions preferred Knowledge of bibliographic resources and basic research techniques Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced public service setting Comfortable learning new technology and assisting patrons with library resources and digital services Flexible, dependable, and eager to gain hands-on experience in a public library environmentAble to work a flexible schedule, including weekdays, evenings, and weekends Physical RequirementsMust be able to move throughout the library and assist patrons in various service areas Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds on a regular basis and occasionally up to 35 pounds, including books, files, program materials, and other library resources Ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, and move for extended periods of time throughout the workday Ability to maintain focus while working on computer screens, detailed paperwork, research projects, and other library-related tasks Ability to use standard office and library equipment, including computers, printers, scanners, and circulation systemsEEO STATEMENTThe company and its subsidiaries are an equal opportunity employer and celebrate the population of differences and does not discriminate in its hiring/hiring practices, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.Nothing in this job specification restricts management’s right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time.Critical features of this job are described under various headings above.
