Engineering Program Manager, Acoustics

Cupertino, California, United States Hardware Description The Acoustics EPM defines and drives the build and development plans for audio HW and SW and serves as the primary interface to Apple Acoustics during HW and SW development. EPMs are responsible for managing and communicating project definition, development landmarks and schedules, and project status in the development of new acoustic modules. EPMs are fearless organizers who are ready to work with the highly skilled Acoustic, Hardware, Software, and Mechanical Design teams to identify and resolve potential pitfalls to the schedule and risks to the quality of the product. Success is defined in terms of the quality and timeliness of the pre‑production builds and the start of mass production, advocating for the best overall acoustic performance throughout the organization, prioritizing issues and tracking details, driving a talented, passionate, experienced multi‑functional team and external suppliers, delivering acoustic modules on schedule, and facilitating risk management and communicating status and issues to the development team and Apple executives. The candidate should be savvy enough to understand the roles and responsibilities of the key partners and identify partners to efficiently drive key decisions and remain in touch with big picture issues. Responsibilities Drive module builds to fulfill system engineering build demands. Key contributor to module build planning and execution. Collaborate and facilitate communication across multiple engineering teams, operations, industrial design, and our vendor partners to meet aggressive quality, schedule, and cost goals. Understand technical issues & complex design trade‑offs. Drive to closure by bringing together key stakeholders; facilitating decision‑making discussions to meet overall project objectives. Identify risks, develop mitigation strategies and facilitate conflict resolution within and between teams, focus on top level objectives and develop best course of action. Create/maintain complex and detailed project schedules for product enclosure and internal mechanical components. Respond quickly to changes and minimize project impact. Provide timely issue resolution and critical path management as top priorities shift. Offer multiple levels of status across a wide spectrum of individual contributors to executive management. Minimum Qualifications 2-4 years project management experience A strong technical background in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, acoustics, and/or software development Preferred Qualifications Excellent listening, presentation, and interpersonal skills Strong cross functional coordination and project management skills Experience in consumer hardware and software Experience with any of the following is a bonus: speakers, microphones, receivers, audio DSP, audio algorithms, machine learning, and/or consumer/device software 2+ years project management experience Self motivated and proactive with creative and critical thinking capabilities. Ability to travel internationally to support builds. At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $144,600 and $263,800, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
