SESSION COUNSELOR (VOLUNTEER)
Camp Challenge is a Christian camp and retreat center in south central Indiana. We exist to develop
followers of and leaders for Jesus Christ by encouraging disconnection with everyday distractions and
reconnection to God through His creation. We are in search of session counselors for one more of our
summer camp sessions. Counselors are expected to attend the staff and volunteer retreat and be in
residence for the entire duration of their chosen session. Counselors report to the session director.
Responsibilities
With a co-counselor, supervise and mentor 6-12 campers
Get all campers to and from activities on time
Participate in and encourage your campers to participate in camp activities
Lead cabin devotions
Spend any unscheduled time connecting with your campers
Enforce camp policies and camper rules
Other duties as assigned by camp session director
Qualifications
A successful volunteer counselor will be:
At least 18 years of age
Mature in their walk with Jesus Christ
Able to live and work in agreement with Camp Challenge’s code of conduct and core values
Passionate about outdoor ministry
Highly responsible and teachable
Aware of their own personality traits and how those manifest in a team setting
Comfortable with campers of varying backgrounds and ages (1st-12th grades)
Recommended by their current pastor
Able to pass a criminal history background check
Time Commitment
Staff and volunteer training retreat (Fri evening-Sat afternoon the 3rd weekend in May)
• 2 hours prior to camp check-in opening day until 1 hour after pick-up closing day
