Support - Self-Contained Instructional Aide

Job Title: Self-Contained Instructional AideLocation: Bedford North Lawrence High SchoolReports To: PrincipalPosition Summary:The Self-Contained Instructional Aide supports special education students-either individually or in small groups-by assisting with academic tasks, daily routines, and other responsibilities assigned by the classroom teacher. This role is essential in creating a safe, inclusive, and productive learning environment.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Assist teachers with daily classroom activities and student supportWork with students individually or in small groups on learning tasksSupervise the classroom when the teacher is temporarily unavailablePrepare, organize, and clean up classroom materials and suppliesMonitor students during non-instructional times such as lunch, recess, transitions, and assembliesMaintain records including attendance, student files, field trip forms, and assignmentsSupport students in completing make-up workProvide assistance to substitute teachers to ensure classroom continuityAdminister basic first aid when necessary until a school nurse is availableProvide restroom and mobility support for students with physical disabilitiesAssist students with boarding and exiting school transportationCollaborate with therapists and specialists to support individual student needsDocument behavioral incidents and assist with behavior management strategiesDistribute instructional materials and prepare worksheets, letters, and classroom communicationPerform other related duties as assigned Education and Experience:High school diploma or equivalent requiredOne to two years of related experience preferredEquivalent combinations of training and experience may be consideredNo special licensure or certification required Physical Requirements:Operate common office and classroom equipment such as computers, copiers, and audiovisual toolsOccasionally lift or carry up to 20 poundsFrequently walk or stand; may sit for short periods Supervisory Responsibilities:Provide guidance and instruction to studentsAssist in classroom supervision and behavior management Mathematical Skills:Basic arithmetic including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages Language and Communication Skills:Read and interpret various instructional documents such as lesson plans, test materials, and student recordsPrepare accurate written reports, correspondence, and classroom materialsFollow verbal and written directions accuratelyMaintain confidentiality of sensitive informationCommunicate effectively with students, staff, families, and the public Interpersonal Skills:Show patience, adaptability, and professionalismBuild supportive relationships with students and staff
