Unlike a clinical or hospital setting, the School RN serves as a pivotal bridge between healthcare and education. You will be responsible for managing student chronic health conditions, providing emergency care, and promoting a healthy learning environment for all students and staff.Qualifications:Bachelor of Science , current calid RN licenseCertified be Texas Department of State Health Services to conduct vision, hearing, and spinal screening.Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) certificatesSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Knowledge of basic first aidProficient keyboarding and file maintenance skillsAbility to use software to develop databases and do word processingAbility to write routine reports and correspondenceStrong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skillsExperience:Two-year experience in health-related position; preferably in community healthKey ResponsibilitiesStudent Health Management: Coordinate and implement Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs) and 504 Plans for students with chronic conditions (e.g., diabetes, asthma, seizures, severe allergies).Emergency Care: Provide first aid and emergency care for injuries and sudden illnesses; assess situations to determine if emergency medical services (EMS) are required.Medication Administration: Oversee and administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with state laws and district policy.Health Screenings: Conduct mandated screenings (vision, hearing, scoliosis) and manage follow-up referrals with parents and providers.Communicable Disease Control: Monitor and report outbreaks of infectious diseases and ensure compliance with immunization requirements.Supervision: Provide clinical supervision and delegation of tasks to Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) or unlicensed assistive personnel within the school setting.Advocacy: Act as a liaison between the school, family, and community healthcare providers to support student wellness.Major Responsibilities and Duties:Provide direct care using school health protocols and individualized health plans (IHPs) established by the RN supervisor or medical advisor.Administer medication to students according to board policy and district procedures.Carry out mandatory screening programs, collect data, and complete required reports as directed.Collaborate with campus principal, school counselor, teachers, parents, food service, and other staff regarding the health needs of the general population and those students with identified health conditions as directed by the supervising RN.Communicate with parents regarding individual students as directed by the school nurse (RN).Participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee (ARD) meeting of students with identifiable health needs if the RN is unable and collaborate with appropriate staff and RN regarding implementation of health-related Individual Education Plan (IEP) items.Distribute information to faculty or staff on health related topics as needed and as directed by the RN.Provide guidance to unlicensed assistive personnel or other school staff on health related tasks as directed by the RN.Maintain accurate and confidential student health records, including immunization records, medication administration records, and individual student treatment records.Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required, including accurate, confidential health records on all students.Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, Texas Department of Health rule, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in health services area.
