Electrical Engineer (Ph.D.)
Overview
In this role you will join Exponent’s Electrical Engineering & Computer Science Practice to tackle high-impact, multidisciplinary technical problems for diverse clients. You’ll contribute across a project lifecycle, from scoping to reporting, while shaping your consulting practice around your strengths. The role blends individual work with team collaboration on applications spanning consumer electronics, medical devices, and power systems. You’ll drive method development and business opportunities in a fast-paced, knowledge-driven environment.

ResponsibilitiesPerform analysis and consulting on electrical/electronic components, products, and systemsSupport both reactive and proactive client issues: failure analysis, risk assessment, reliability, design, manufacturingContribute as an individual and in multidisciplinary teamsResearch and develop novel methodologies for cutting-edge problemsParticipate in all project lifecycle stages: scoping, design of experiments, testing, data analysis, reporting, client presentationsPursue business development opportunities
Key requirementsPh.D. in Electrical Engineering or closely related field (Applied Physics or Optics)1-2 years of relevant industry or postdoc experience preferredTechnical focus in electronics, semiconductors, circuits, electromagnetics, power electronicsExperience with bench-top or product-level optical systems or medical devices (strongly preferred)Experience with electrical test equipment, testing, validation, and troubleshootingExcellent verbal and written communication; ability to convey conclusions to technical and non-technical audiencesSelf-starter with strong fundamentals and first-principles thinking; eagerness to learnStrong client-service orientation; able to work with clients to meet technical needsLegally authorized to work in the United States (no sponsorship required)excellent communicationself-starterstrong client-service orientationelectronicssemiconductorscircuits
