Construction Manager

This position offers an exceptional opportunity to serve as the primary liaison between a major technology company and its construction project team for a large-scale earthworks and civil construction initiative. The successful candidate will act as the client's trusted advisor and advocate throughout all phases of construction and closeout, ensuring that project objectives are met with the highest standards of quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness. This role requires a seasoned professional who can navigate complex construction contracts, coordinate multiple stakeholders, and provide strategic guidance on all aspects of earthwork operations, site development, and civil infrastructure installation. contractors, design consultants, and regulatory authorities.Responsibilities:Administer and enforce the construction contract between the client and general contractor to ensure high-quality project delivery in accordance with design specificationsMonitor and coordinate activities among general contractors, earthwork contractors, civil contractors, separate contractors, and equipment suppliers to prevent scheduling conflicts and ensure seamless project executionReview and provide recommendations on change orders, payment applications, contractor submittals, and requests for information to maintain project schedule and budgetConduct daily site inspections to document construction progress, verify quality standards, and ensure compliance with safety protocols specific to excavation, trenching, and heavy equipment operationsManage mass grading operations, excavation activities, and site utility installations including storm drainage, sanitary systems, water distribution, and underground electrical infrastructureOversee geotechnical considerations including soil stabilization, dewatering, and foundation preparation in accordance with geotechnical reportsConduct constructability reviews of civil engineering designs including grading plans, utility layouts, and erosion control measuresEnsure compliance with environmental regulations, stormwater management requirements, and erosion control best practicesCoordinate with surveyors to verify proper site layout and grade verification throughout construction phasesMaintain and update project documentation including snagging lists, closeout issues, commissioning files, and testing documentsFacilitate weekly project meetings and construction site walks, providing clear communication channels between the client and project teamIdentify and work with the project team to implement schedule acceleration opportunities and mitigation strategies for potential delaysPerform financial analysis of construction costs and evaluate value engineering opportunitiesMonitor third-party inspection reports and verify that identified issues are resolved satisfactorilyPrepare and deliver weekly written reports and monthly project review presentations documenting key construction metrics, progress, and issuesImmediately notify the client of any health and safety incidents, quality concerns, schedule risks, or potential conflicts of interestVerify statutory approvals are obtained before work commences and monitor submission of necessary information to regulatory bodiesDrive troubleshooting efforts and root-cause analysis for construction issues as they ariseSkills:Expert knowledge of heavy civil construction methods, equipment, and sequencing for large-scale earthwork projectsStrong understanding of site utilities including storm drainage, sanitary systems, water distribution, and underground electrical infrastructureProficiency in reading and interpreting civil engineering drawings, grading plans, and utility layoutsAdvanced contract administration and enforcement capabilitiesExcellent negotiation skills for managing change orders and contractor relationshipsStrong financial analysis abilities for evaluating construction costs and value engineering opportunitiesComprehensive knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles and soil mechanicsThorough understanding of environmental regulations, stormwater management, and erosion control best practicesExceptional communication skills for coordinating multiple stakeholders and representing client interestsStrong leadership equipment operationsExperience:Minimum 8 years of experience in earthworks, mining, or civil construction project managementProven track record managing large-scale grading operations, excavation projects, and site utility installationsAt least 5 years of general contractor and vendor management experience including RFPs, bidding, change orders, quality control, and RFI/submittal trackingDemonstrated experience with mass earthwork projects involving 1,000,000+ cubic yards of cut/fillQualifications:Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Mining Engineering, or related field OR 8+ years of relevant experience in lieu of degreeOSHA 30-Hour Construction certification required within 90 days of hireKnowledge of Ohio building codes and regulations including ODOT specifications, local municipality requirements, and EPA stormwater regulations (preferred)Professional Engineer (PE) license in Civil Engineering (preferred)Experience with GPS-guided grading equipment and modern earthmoving technology (preferred)Knowledge of dewatering systems and groundwater management (preferred)Experience with NPDES permitting and stormwater
