Job DescriptionAmerican Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN Med Surg for a travel nursing job in Artesia, New Mexico.Job Description & RequirementsSpecialty: Med SurgDiscipline: RNStart Date: 05/25/2026Duration: 13 weeks36 hours per weekShift: 12 hours, nightsEmployment Type: TravelAssignment OverviewShift: Nights, 3x12hrsHours: 36 hrs/wkStart Date: May 25, 2026Length: 13 weeksOpenings: 2DescriptionAmerican Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Inpatient unit requiring at least 3 years of MS-Tele experience, with the ability to manage drips and interpret telemetry strips.DetailsAcute care inpatient setting in a small but capable community hospital currently working toward Level IV trauma designationMed/Surg unit with PCU crossover — nurses may be called upon to work in the PCU area within the same department, where patients can be acutely ill and on drips or invasive monitors26-bed unit with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:3–5CNA support on unit at a 1:8 ratio, assisting with vitals, ADLs, I/Os, patient transfers, transports, and showersRespiratory therapy available in-house 24/7; unit-designated RT during the day, with one RT in-house overnightCommon diagnoses include Medical/Surgical and PCU-level casesTitratable drips include insulin, amiodarone, and norepinephrine (Levophed), with multiple drip protocols in useTelemetry monitoring using Mindray cardiac monitors; must be able to read and interpret tele strips independentlyCharting system: TruBridge (Evident/CPSI)12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)Every other weekend requiredHoliday rotation may be requiredNo on-call or standby requirementTravelers are expected to be flexible with scheduling to help fill gaps; block scheduling is not guaranteedNo floating requirement for RNsRequirementsActive NM or Compact RN license requiredCurrent BLS and ACLS certifications requiredMinimum 3 years of Med/Surg Telemetry (MS-Tele) experience requiredAbility to titrate drips (insulin, amiodarone, vasopressors) requiredAbility to read and interpret telemetry strips requiredPCU or Step-Down experience preferredLTAC experience is a plusAbility to manage patients requiring bipap/cpap and invasive monitoring preferredBSN not requiredAdditional InformationMandatory facility modules must be completed prior to working the floor; modules are estimated to take approximately 20 hours and are completed before the assignment starts1–2 day unit orientation with a preceptor, depending on individual needsCharge nurses take a lesser patient assignment; travelers are not typically asked to serve in a charge roleNavy blue scrubs requiredFirst-time travelers are welcome to applyAmerican Traveler Job ID #P-702914.
