If this sounds like you, apply below!Semi-skilled work in the maintenance, construction and repair of county rights-of-way, stormwater conveyance and facilities.Performs maintenance and repairs to all bridges within Sarasota County, to include: Concrete repairs, joint seal replacement, pressure washing, painting, vegetation removal and any other maintenance required for safe vehicle and pedestrian travel.Assist Skilled Trades I in the repair and installation of concrete sidewalks, curb & gutter, driveways and handicap ramps.Assist in the maintenance and repair to all asphalt surfaces along county-maintained roadways. Includes operation of tools and equipment associated with road repair and modifications, road cuts and pothole repair. All work is done to Department of Transportation (DOT) specifications. Duties include setting up the required Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) for safety, flagging per MOT standards, performing labor intensive tasks associated with shoveling, spreading, and compacting asphalt.Conducts labor tasks to keep roadways and rights-of-way clear of obstructions. Includes removing debris and hazards from roadways. i.e., (construction debris and dead animal carcass). Conducts manual trimming of trees for proper clearance and site distance problems, using chainsaws, weed eaters, pole saws and manual tools associated. Assist in the re-grading of county non-maintained roadways.Frequently operates dump trucks and occasionally will operate backhoes, small excavators, skid loaders, front end loaders and other related equipment required to maintain and repair road rights-of-way.Maintains equipment and vehicles as assigned.Completes and submits work orders relating to all work performed in a professional and timely fashion.Responds to emergency situations as required.Performs all other related duties or special projects as assigned or directed.Work Hours: 6:30 a.m. 3:00 p.m. Monday - FridayMinimum Qualifications: A High School Diploma or its equivalent and one year of experience in the applicable trade (semi-skilled laborer in the care and maintenance of concrete, asphalt and vegetation along Road Right-Of-Ways). Possession of a valid Driver's License at time of hire and obtain a Class "B" CDL with Tanker endorsement within (6) months from date of hire.Knowledge of current technology in road rights-of-way maintenance practices.Knowledge of safe operation of specialized tools and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of road rights-of-way.Operation of front-end loader, dump truck, personal computers and mechanical tools used in the road maintenance industry.The ability to understand and follow oral/written instructions.Must frequently lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening.
