Component Engineer
Description:
The Component Engineer is responsible for providing technical expertise in the selection and specification of off-the-shelf and custom purchased electronic and mechanical components. This position will focus on reducing material costs and inventory by identifying alternative solutions to current material/suppliers.
Augment and guide Purchasing on the transition to a component level buyer with in-house manufacturing rather than a commodity PCBA/CM buyer.
Address component level issues affecting current production. Identify alternate sources, component substitutions, lower costs solutions, lead-times, etc.
Provide cost reduction efforts related to component selection, replacement, costing and implementation for Stryker CS1120, CS1121, CS1233, CS3219 and CS3219A as well as others to be identified.
Interpret, decipher and analyze RFPs, RFQs, engineering drawings, etc. for costing, component selection and development efforts.
Provide System Engineering from a procurement viewpoint such as component selection, cost benefit analysis, etc. on a global basis. Provide Agile documentation for component additions, modifications, corrections and maintenance.
Conduct cost analysis on component manufacturing processes, materials, and equipment
Support new product introduction and R&D, including dual sourcing key materials
Address issues related to the lifecycle of components
Identify and select components for a product's design or assembly ensuring they meet technical specifications, quality standards, and regulatory compliance.
Develop strategic relationships with component manufacturers.
Provide responses to BTP (Build-To-Print) opportunities, including quoting, creating and verifying BOMs from customer documentation, generating and releasing related part numbers and assisting Purchasing with proper material procurement.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and technical experience
5 to 7 years’ experience working with the broad spectrum of electronic and mechanical components (cables, electronics, metal work, plastics, PCBs, etc.)
Familiar with both new and alternate component sourcing
Knowledgeable in best supply chain practices
Familiar with ISO 9000, RoHS, and other industry standards
Experience with manufacturer PCNs, Failure Analysis, and EOL processing
Support testing and evaluation of various components
Strong attention to detail, highly organized
Strong problem solving skills, providing technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems
Ability to work well in a fast-paced, changing environment
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to work both independently and on a team
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to work professionally with external customers
