Please checkout VolunteerMatch for more info on the charity. All engineers should be familiar with Lean Software Development, Clean Code, and Clean Architecture. Other mindset-level preferences include:Shipping sealed artifacts rather than a git refs despite the popularity of gitops. Trunk-based workflow with a single long-lived integration branch (in some cases release branches may be appropriate, but nothing like gitflow). Shared git repository per service boundary rather than monorepos. Strategic/light functional programming over object oriented programming in TS/JS. Not every engineer will have expertise in every area and we expected to hire more than one person to help us with the initiative - we intend to hire humans, not magical unicorns. You have the needed chops with expertise and significant, senior-level experience in several of:Bazel Nix and nix/dev shells. GitHub Actions Rust, Ocaml, Haskell, Zig, Elixir or TLA+ NextJS, SvelteKit, or DenoKubernetes, CRDs, clusters GCP OPA Crossplane SOPSVaultDapr Great fits will have expertise and significant, senior-level experience in all of:TypeScript/NodeJS GitHub Actions OCI/Docker pnpm (and we like moonrepo) Continuous Delivery Terraform (we also like TypeScript/Pulumi) Grafana Cloud/LGTM The project is intended to be redistributed under an open source license so complete rights to all work product must be available. What You’ll Be Working OnThe initiative’s purpose as per PGF is , “Optimum Developer Experience is important to productivity but in our case investing in DevX is respect for our volunteers whose time and efforts are not to be wasted. We desire to provide a delightful, elegant, it-just-works experience where volunteer efforts are rewarding and meaningful impact is maximized.”Achieving this DevX will include:Sharable Nix-based development and CI environments for polyglot shared repositories with frictionless scaffolding. Shareable GitHub Action/workflow for ephemeral staging / review environments leveraging GitHub Deployments API. Solution to admin GitHub repositories and orgs by code such as Probot app, Nix, Terraform, or Crossplane. Changelog gen, semver’d releases and artifacts, compatible with trunk-based workflow and shared repositories. Dependency management and supply chain security. Developer portal, perhaps using Backstage, but we need to support external, ad-hoc contributors as well. Leveraging Bazel for hermetically sealed, distributed, incremental builds with stronger dependency management tools such as nix and when appropriate pnpm. Find a way to implement work in progress limits for GitHub Projects. Code generator that supports refactoring such as an integration with hygen and recast. Instrumenting Flow Metrics with Monte Carlo forecasting. API proxy supporting Frontend-first development.
