Learn To Swim InstructorUnder the supervision of the Aquatics Director, Assistant Manager, and Shift Supervisors, a Learn to Swim Instructor is a non-exempt position responsible for the safety and well-being of Learn to Swim participants at the Turner Aquatic Center. Performs swimming lesson instructor duties as assigned by the Aquatics Director, Assistant Manager or Shift Supervisor. This employee's work schedule occurs during Turner Aquatic Center learn to swim classes.Essential duties and responsibilities include monitoring swimmers for safety, completing swim lesson reports and records, assisting with preparation and clean up for LTS classes, following safety directives established by the City, County, State, Federal, Turner Recreation Commission and Turner USD #202, skilled in verbal communication with both children and adults, developing and implementing swimming lesson plans effectively, maintaining positive relationships with students, parents and community patrons, modeling major strokes and other swimming techniques in and out of the water as established by the American Red Cross, and maintaining reliable transportation.Marginal functions include obeying and complying with all Turner Recreation and Turner Aquatic Center policies, providing first aid or emergency CPR if necessary, working collaboratively with other staff members and management, maintaining swim lesson equipment and supplies in proper working order, reporting to swim lessons appropriately dressed and ready to begin class promptly, maintaining progress reports, mobility to handle up to 8 children in the water at one time, and performing other duties necessary or assigned.Position requirements include no experience required but preferred, must be at least 15 years of age, must be able to read, write, and count, current CPR and First Aid certification is required, must possess current Water Safety Instructor certification from the American Red Cross, ability to establish successful working relationships with co-workers, volunteers, and the public, use good professional judgment, honesty, and integrity in decision making, ability to enforce department policies and procedures and to interpret written instructions and manuals, ability to interact with the public in a professional manner and have verbal and written communication skills, independent problem solving, independent decision making, subject to supervision from the Aquatics Director, Assistant Manager, and Shift Supervisors, responsible for aquatic facility equipment, expected to be honest, fair in his/her dealings with the public and co-workers, and maintain a reputation that is above reproach, expected to have strong customer service skills, frequently exposed to wet and/or hot and humid conditions and occasionally exposed to outside conditions, occasionally required to swim; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; and talk or hear, frequently required to sit; stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop; kneel, crouch, or crawl, must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs, specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus, a 500 yard minimum swim is required every other week and the ability to perform first aid and CPR to staff and patrons is required, subject to pre-employment physical examination with a written statement from the physician as to the employee's ability to meet the requirements of the position and also subject to drug and alcohol testing.
