Director of Secondary Education Grades 7-12
Miami Public Schools is accepting applications for a Director of Secondary Education Teacher Grades 7-12 for the 2026-2027 school year. OK certification required. Experience preferred.QUALIFICATIONS:Valid Oklahoma Teaching Certificate.An earned master' degree with a major in education,Learning Leaders Cadre/Professional Learning Communities:LLC: Collaborates with principals on LLC schedule and agenda planning at junior high and high school levels (Grade-level Principals assist in planning and leading).PLC: Collaborates with principals on PLC schedule at junior high and high school (Grade-level Principals assist in planning). Visits all PLC meetings. Creates a schedule with Grade-Level Principals for rotation of PLC chairs on a 2 year term basis.Data Meetings: works with Principals to create a schedule for data meetings. Meets regularly with Assistant Superintendent to update on data and create plans for improvement (with Grade-Level Principals).Walk-throughs: Responsible for assuring that instructional strategies and supports are being implemented consistently.Academic Planning:Career Pathways: Works with College and Career Coordinator (counselor) to make sure every 7-12 student has an individualized career academic plan (ICAP) and is on a career pathway (college-bound, vocational school, workforce ready, or military service).Academic Counseling: responsible for ensuring all secondary students receive academic counseling. Coordinates a yearly schedule with all secondary counselors to make sure all students in grades 7-12 have a pre-enrollment appointment with parents, student, and counselor to make sure the student is taking the appropriate courses for their career pathway.Course Catalog: responsible for maintaining junior high (7-9) and high school (10-12) course catalogs that reflect all available courses for students at both school sites.Course Sequence: responsible for establishing the appropriate course sequences for students depending on student's career pathway and ICAP.Alignment: Works with PLCs and LLCs at both sites to ensure that horizontal and vertical alignment are ongoing processes.Curriculum Maps: responsible for ensuring curriculum maps for all secondary courses exist and are maintained. Ensures maps are appropriate in regard to standards, objectives, texts, concepts, and activities.Scholarships: works with the 11-12th grade counselor to develop and maintain a plan for scholarships for all high school students (database, informational events, scholarship night, FAFSA, Gates Millennium, Talent Search, etc.)Master Schedule: Chairs committee of Grade-Level principals and counselors that will develop the master schedules for both sites.Evaluations: Counselor evaluations with the possibility of others.Academic TutoringResponsible for planning and implementing a tutoring and academic recovery program for all ineligible students.Textbook Committee/Curriculum CommitteeChair of Textbook and Curriculum committees at the secondary level. Works with grade-level principals on teacher representation on the committee. Works with Assistant Superintendent in selection of yearly textbook/curriculum materials.Testing Coordinator (Site)Works with counselors to establish plans and protocols for the following testing:ASVABACTCCRA ACT (or SAT depending on yearly selection)Monthly ACT schedule (sending out reminders, working with counselors to make sure students have assistance registering, students eligible for fee waivers receive them, etc.)OSTPCCRA ScienceCCRA HistoryCitizenship Test (Class of 2025)Professional DevelopmentCoordinates with Grade-Level Principals the secondary site schedule for professional development and assists (when appropriate) with site faculty meetings, in-service trainings, etc.Works with Assistant Superintendent on professional development trainings and funding.Reports to Building Principal and Asst Superintendent.Other duties as assigned.
