Firmware Lead Engineer

Team members benefit from a diverse, cross-cultural environment that emphasizes professional growth and collaborative success.Role Description The Firmware Lead Engineer role is a full-time, on-site position based in Cupertino, CA. This role is responsible for leading the design, development, and integration of firmware for embedded systems, ensuring performance, reliability, and security requirements are met. Day-to-day activities include defining firmware architecture, writing and reviewing code, debugging complex system issues, and collaborating closely with hardware, software, and test engineering teams. The Firmware Lead Engineer will oversee technical documentation, guide junior engineers through code reviews and mentoring, and contribute to planning, estimation, and continuous improvement of development processes. The role also involves coordinating with cross-functional stakeholders to align firmware deliverables with product roadmaps and release schedules.Qualifications Strong embedded systems and firmware development skills, including experience with C/C++, microcontrollers, and real-time operating systems.Proficiency in hardware–firmware integration, debugging tools, and low-level interfaces such as I2C, SPI, UART, and other communication protocols.Experience leading technical teams, conducting code reviews, mentoring engineers, and driving best practices in firmware architecture and design.Knowledge of software development life cycle, configuration management, version control (e.g., Git), and continuous integration workflows.Familiarity with test and validation methodologies for firmware, including unit testing, system-level testing, and use of lab equipment such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional environments.Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.Experience in consumer electronics or related high-volume products is beneficial; knowledge of safety, compliance, or security standards is a plus.
