At Rex Lumber, quality is not just inspected-it is built into every step of the process.Position SummaryThe Quality Control Technician works within the sawmill and planer mill operations at our Troy, Alabama facility, monitoring machine centers and production processes to ensure lumber meets quality and dimensional specifications. This role is critical to maximizing lumber recovery, maintaining product quality, and supporting efficient mill operations.This position is ideal for individuals who are detail-oriented, comfortable in a physically active industrial environment, and interested in developing a long-term career in lumber manufacturing.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesContinuously monitor planer and sawmill machine centers for accurate lumber productionMeasure and record lumber thickness and width at designated machine centers following established proceduresPerform daily manufacturing quality checks to ensure machine centers are operating at optimal levelsDocument inspection findings, maintain quality records, and communicate off-specification issues to mill personnelAssist mill operators in correcting lumber that is out of specificationProvide guidance and training to mill personnel on identifying and reporting quality issuesGenerate reports showing performance trends and key quality indicatorsComplete production tallies, downtime tallies, and daily reports as requiredAssist the supervisor in developing and improving quality processes across other mill areas as neededQualifications & SkillsAbility to understand and follow oral and written instructionsAbility to perform repetitive or continuous physical tasks over timeAbility to bend, stretch, twist, reach, and stand for extended periodsUnderstanding of lumber manufacturing processes and quality standardsUnderstanding of the relationship between lumber volume, value, and recoveryWorking knowledge of planer and sawmill machineryGeneral knowledge of optimization principlesBasic computer skills for data entry, reporting, and recordkeepingStrong attention to detail and observational skillsAbility to communicate effectively with operators and supervisorsAbility to monitor gauges, dials, and indicators to ensure equipment is functioning properlyBasic mathematical skillsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamSafety ResponsibilitiesFollow all area- and machine center-specific safety regulationsWear all required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hardhat, safety glasses, and hearing protectionDo not enter restricted areas without authorizationImmediately report unsafe or malfunctioning equipment to a supervisorRequest assistance when tasks exceed individual knowledge or abilityVisually inspect equipment and work areas before operationEliminate unsafe conditions whenever possibleFollow standard lockout/tagout procedures when requiredUse proper lifting techniques by lifting with legs-not the backNever approach a saw while it is runningFollow all company safety policies and proceduresBenefits & PerksCompany-paid health insurancePrescription drug coverageDental and vision insuranceTelemedicine program through TeladocWellness incentivesPaid Time Off (PTO)7 paid holidaysTerm life, accidental death, and critical care insuranceEmployee Assistance Program (EAP)Strive Rewards ProgramEmployee referral programSafety incentivesUniform rental programBoot loan programReady to Apply?
