ASSISTANT STORE MANAGER TRAINEE

Under the direction of the store manager, the Store Manager Trainee will learn and work in all store functions including facilities maintenance, personnel management, sales, inventory control, merchandising, accounting, and customer service.This position is designed and intended to be performed in Bow, NH.PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Supervisory ResponsibilitiesRecruit and interview prospective employeesMake recommendations to fire, hire and disciplineOrient and train new employeesEvaluate current employees on job performanceEstablish routine employee meeting schedule to provide safety, store, and new product training and communicate policies and proceduresProvide weekly work schedules working in vacation, holiday, and time-off, etc.Prepare weekly time sheets for PayrollSupervise in-store personnelProvide individual training when necessaryEnsure that all employees are following Company policies, procedures, personnel and safety rulesRun the store in the absence of the Store ManagerPrimary Duties & ResponsibilitiesFacility ManagementMaintain a high level of housekeeping and maintenance throughout the store, warehouse, pole buildings, equipment, vehicles, and groundsRemove any unsafe equipment from operation, repair or replaceKeep facilities secure making sure all security and safety systems are in orderMonitor energy and utility usage for efficiency and savings Maintain landscaping for maximum aesthetic valueEnsure the Company image is projected favorably Sales ManagementAdjust store and grounds layout to achieve maximum utilization of selling areasSupervise the display of merchandise for sales efficiency taking into consideration season products and trafficCoordinate displays to coincide with advertisingCreate in-store promotions and follow through with Company provided promotions to promote trafficProvide sales training and product knowledge to store personnelShop competitors for price structuring, and test market new productsMake calls to existing and prospective customers as required to meet sales and credit objectives Handle customer complaintsInventory ManagementPlace order for product according to Company policies and procedures using appropriate formsMaintain merchandise by adding new lines or items and dropping lines and items as indicated by turn numbersMaintain inventories at desired levels for maximum turnover and profitability Determine prices and proper margin levels for merchandiseKeep prices adjusted to conform to price changes by suppliersHandle, or supervise the handling, claims for damaged or supplied goods Maintain appropriate contacts with suppliers according to Company policies and proceduresSupervise the taking of monthly feed and recurring non-feed cycle countsAccounting ManagementApprove all invoices for payment, and ensure all goods and services which are invoiced have been received Maintain security over daily cash and bank deposits Prepare or supervise the preparation of the daily cash reportVerify all credit sales are within termsInitiate collection procedures on overdue accountEDUCATION:Associate’s degree in Business Administration or equivalent EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:Three to five years’ experience in a retail management positionWorking knowledge in areas of lawn and garden, agriculture and animals (pets and livestock)Demonstrated customer service abilityMust be able to multitaskExperienced with handling cash and credit card receipts and the accounting and inventory processes associated with these transactions
