Manager in Training - Warsaw (Southeast District) - FT
Job Objective:
The Manager in Training will learn all aspects of the Store Managers position and will direct the smooth operation of a fast-paced retail store and present a positive image of Goodwill to the community. This position reports to the District Manager who evaluates performance annually.
Essential Job Functions:
Knows and understands the Goodwill Mission: Strengthen communities by empowering individuals and families through education, training and job placement.
Cashiering:
Accurately count money and make change.
Accurately ring register being aware of proper pricing.
Know Visa and MasterCard procedures, all forms of payment and discounts including Goody Bucks, Good Points and MGB.
Properly bag merchandise.
Alert management regarding altered tickets.
Communicate specials to customers.
Acknowledge all customers and contributors in a helpful & friendly manner
Refer customers to management as warranted.
Watch for shoplifting, for ticket switching and for non-store people in unauthorized areas.
Maintain a safe working and shopping environment.
Ask every paying customer if they would like to Round Up (their change goes to support our Mission).
Supervise work force:
Supervise store employees on a daily basis.
Supervise orientation and training program for new employees.
Participate in sales meetings monthly.
Schedule hours within set limits.
Participate in the interviewing, hiring and termination decisions for all store personnel.
Follow dress code and wear designated identification as provided.
Supervise stock procedures:
Supervise handling of donations, returns, stock transfers.
Quote prices not on the price list.
Check condition and placement of stock.
Maintain store appearance and shopability.
Work to reduce internal theft and shoplifting.
Ensure 2 textile audits are completed per textile hanger per day and all other processed racks are counted and tracked on the appropriate paperwork.
Administrative and clerical operations:
Administer company policies and procedures.
Supervise daily bank deposits, replenishes change fund, and picks up bank bags.
Process refunds.
Run register and make change.
Handle customer complaints.
Route mail.
Maintain store operating money and petty cash fund.
Maintain records of store as required.
Make recommendations to the District Manager based on analysis of records.
Supervise the placement of signs in sale areas and windows for promotions and special events.
Request repairs from the Transportation/Outlet Manager, District Manager or Director of Transportation, Facilities and Grounds.
Supervise the ordering of cleaning and maintenance supplies.
Supervise inventory and supply requisitioning.
Attend meetings as required.
Safety and security:
Maintain safety and security of the premises and merchandise.
Seek to eliminate pilferage and prevent burglary.
Eliminate fire hazards and unsafe conditions.
Conduct emergency drills and instruct workers in fire prevention and safety procedures.
Maintain a safe working and shopping environment.
Perform bag checks for exiting employees.
Fill in as needed to cover the schedule in the absence of other store employees.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Must have ability to read, write and do simple math functions.
Ability to work well under pressure.
Ability to exercise good judgment.
Excellent communication skills.
Prior supervisory experience.
Must have prior experience in dealing with the public and the ability to do so tactfully.
Must be sales oriented.
Must have ability to carry out established organizational and departmental policies and procedures as described in the Employee Handbook.
Must have ability to be a working Manager.
Follow the dress code and wear designated identification as provided.
Must have ability to work a flexible schedule, opening and closing the store, working long days as necessary.
Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screen.
Must have reliable transportation, a current driver's license, and provide proof of insurance to travel to different job sites for meetings, training, etc.
Physical Requirements:
Must be well groomed and personable.
Must have good physical stamina and moderate mobility as well as the ability to lift, bend and work on feet for at least 8-hour periods.
Must have the ability to move filled boxes, barrels and Z-racks weighing no more than 50 pounds.
