Staff Reliability Test Engineer
At TE, you will unleash your potential working with people from diverse backgrounds and industries to create a safer, sustainable and more connected world. Why you should joinAs part of the Digital Data Networks (DDN) business unit at TE Connectivity, you will play a key role in designing high-speed connectivity solutions across connectors, cable assemblies, and wireless infrastructure—supporting next-generation data centers and communication networks. In this role, you will collaborate with best-in-class development teams and work closely with customers to define and execute robust reliability strategies. You will contribute to products developed through a structured stage-gate process, ensuring reliability is built in from early design through validation. You will define and implement reliability test strategies across key project phases—from design verification to product validation—leveraging advanced methods such as Highly Accelerated Life Testing (HALT) and Highly Accelerated Stress Testing (HAST). Through data analysis and cross-functional collaboration, you will identify design and process weaknesses and drive effective corrective actions.Working alongside material and component experts, you will support continuous improvement initiatives, including stress screening and accelerated testing techniques, to enhance product robustness. You will apply structured methodologies such as Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) and robust design principles, utilizing reliability data, stress acceleration models, accelerated life testing (ALT), and test-to-failure analysis. Your work will enable data-driven decisions and ensure DDN products meet the highest reliability standards and customer expectations.Your main tasksDesign and drive reliability for Data and Device Network (DDN) products from concept through productionContribute to requirement engineering by analyzing load conditions and deriving internal stressesDevelop and execute reliability plans aligned with environmental conditions, usage scenarios, and business impactAnalyze test data and utilize appropriate data acquisition methods and systemsApply accelerated testing models and test-to-failure strategies to identify failure modes and determine reliability limitsPerform initial FIT estimations using standards such as Siemens Norm SN-29500, and calculate final FIT values based on test dataEvaluate customer requirements, application needs, and mission profiles to define optimal validation strategiesLead corrective and preventive action (CAPA) processes to address reliability issuesSupport or manage centralized databases for reliability test plans, models, and field data to enable reuse and faster decision-makingPresent reliability performance, risks, and recommendations to leadership to influence design decisionsLeverage accelerated testing methods to assess design margins and support concept selectionDefine sample size and test duration using reliability statisticsPromote a reliability-driven culture across cross-functional teams with a proactive, data-driven approachAnalyze validation test results to calculate reliability metrics such as MTTF and identify risks or failuresSupport definition and implementation of mitigation and corrective action plans for identified risks and failure modesCollaborate with customer reliability experts and communicate analysis results effectivelyParticipate in design reviews and lead the reliability section of the review processYour ideal backgroundBachelor’s or Master’s degree in a technical discipline (Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, or related field)7–10 years of experience in reliability engineering for automotive electronics or mechatronic products, covering reliability estimation, calculation, and risk identificationStrong knowledge of FIT estimation methodologies and reliability statistics, including Weibull analysis, chi-square (χ²) statistics, and application of Bayes’ theoremFamiliarity with reliability and safety analysis methods such as FMEDA and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)Formal training or certification in Reliability Engineering (e.g., ASQ, TÜV, ReliaSoft, or equivalent)Experience working with automotive customers and defining reliability strategies based on customer requirementsProven experience in performing statistical reliability analysis for mechatronic productsStrong curiosity and a hands-on mindset, with the ability to understand how systems/products work, including a reverse engineering approachExcellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with cross-functional teams (engineering, product management, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, finance, and sales)Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make decisions under constraints and ambiguityWillingness to travel as required (~20%)WE VALUEDFSS Six Sigma Green Belt certificationKnowledge of standards such as EIA-364-1000B, TIA-942, IPC standards for electronic assemblies, and UL standards for data center component-level certifications (e.g., UL 1977, UL 444, UL 817, UL 2416)Knowledge of data center architecture, connectors, wire harnesses, busbars, high-speed connectivity products, high-voltage systems, electronics, and measurement & signal processingFunctional Safety (FuSa) knowledgeExperience in sensor product development for data center applicationsCoding skills, including developing tools using Python#jobsEMEANBCompetenciesValues: Integrity, Accountability, Inclusion, Innovation, TeamworkAbout Te ConnectivityTE Connectivity plc (NYSE: TEL) is a global industrial technology leader creating a safer, sustainable, productive, and connected future.
