Senior Embedded Linux Engineer📍 San Bruno, CA (Hybrid – 2 days onsite)💼 Contract with potential to convert💰 $180K–$225K base (FTE) + benefits | Competitive contract rateAbout the RoleWe’re building a next-generation connected hardware platform and are looking for a Senior Embedded Linux Engineer to help shape the core system that powers it.This is a hands-on role focused on embedded Linux platform development, including kernel, board bring-up, device drivers, and hardware integration. You’ll work closely with hardware and product teams to bring up new systems and build a platform that is reliable, scalable, and production-ready.If you enjoy working close to the hardware and have experience building embedded Linux systems that ship, this is a great opportunity to have real impact on a growing product.Note: This is a direct contract engagement (no agencies)What You’ll Work OnBring up embedded Linux systems from bootloader through kernel and user spaceDevelop and modify Linux device drivers and low-level system componentsWork closely with hardware teams to integrate and debug new boardsBuild and maintain BSPs and system configurations for custom hardwareSupport communication between SoCs and microcontrollersIntegrate peripherals (I2C, SPI, UART, GPIO, etc.)Contribute to system performance, stability, and reliabilityHelp define how the platform evolves as the product scalesWhat We’re Looking ForExperience developing embedded Linux systems (kernel, drivers, or BSP work)Strong C/C++ skills in embedded environmentsExperience with board bring-up or hardware integrationFamiliarity with bootloaders (U-Boot or similar)Experience debugging systems using tools like GDB, JTAG, or logic analyzersComfortable working closely with hardware and cross-functional teamsNice to HaveExperience with Yocto, Buildroot, or similar build systemsOTA update systems or firmware upgrade workflowsDisplay or UI integration (HDMI, DSI, LVDS, Qt, etc.)Linux security (secure boot, signing, etc.)Why This RoleWork on a real hardware product (not just software layers)High ownership and impact on platform architectureCollaborative team across hardware, software, and productOpportunity to shape a system from early stages through production
