Physical Education Teacher - Department of Special Education
DescriptionNassau BOCES is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Physical Education Teacher to join our Special Education Department. The successful candidate will design and implement physical education programs that support the diverse physical, social, and emotional needs of students with disabilities. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:Developing and delivering individualized and group physical education instruction aligned with Individualized Education Program (IEP) goalsAdapting curriculum, equipment, and activities to meet a wide range of abilities and needsPromoting physical fitness, motor development, teamwork, and social skillsCollaborating with special education teachers, therapists, and support staffMonitoring student progress and maintaining accurate documentationEnsuring a safe, structured, and supportive learning environmentRequirementsNew York State Education Department Certification (NYSED): Physical EducationBackground in Adapted Physical Education is preferredExperience working with students with special needs, including developmental, emotional, and physical disabilitiesStrong classroom management and organizational skillsAbility to modify instruction to accommodate diverse learnersExcellent communication and collaboration skillsSALARY: As per contractNon-Discrimination StatementThe Nassau BOCES offers employment and educational opportunities without regard to age, color, creed, disability, familial status, gender, gender expression, gender identity, marital status, military/veteran status, national origin, predisposing genetic characteristics, race, religion (including religious practice and/or expression), sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical condition), sexual orientation or victim of domestic violence status.
