MERCHANDISE MANAGER
The Merchandise Manager is responsible for the management of all operations in the following departments: Annuals, Florals, Hardgoods, Houseplants, Pottery, Christmas, and Services relating to those departments.
The Merchandise Manager daily responsibilities include but are not limited to hiring and firing personnel, sales, inventory, customer service, facility, and administration. The successful Merchandise Manager exemplifies Bountiful Acres core values of “Building a legacy through cultivating relationships with people and plants”. The position requires the ability to inspire staff and sets the standard for work performance in the garden center. The position is “hands on” and will interact closely with ownership, the general manager, other department members, accounting, and human resources. The Merchandise Manager also coordinates all cashiering/front end activities.

Key Responsibilities
1. Personnel
Hire the best garden center staff.
Motivate, encourage, and excite garden center staff.
Oversee training and supervision of garden center staff.
Creating weekly garden center staff schedule and planning for staffing needs, including adjustments to the schedule according to weather, deliveries, and customer traffic.
2. Sales and Inventory
Manage garden center sales including managing cashiers, maintaining the register and sales counter, and reconciling cash safe.
Manage maintenance of all plant material.
Bring thoughts and ideas for purchasing and marketing, including research and planning for seasonal changes in inventory and new merchandising and display techniques.
Work closely with other Buyers and the General Manager on inventory management (planning, reporting, achieving desired inventory ratios).
3. Customer Service
Provide and teach perfect customer service – set the standard for garden center staff.
Contribute to social media about products and events
4. Facility
Coordinate maintenance of retail yard (including all signage), receiving, greenhouses, parking lot, and restrooms.
Watch for and resolve or report safety issues and advise garden center staff as appropriate.
5. Administration
Notify General Manager, Owners, and/or A/P of any issues that need to be addressed – clearly, directly, and immediately.
Contribute to scheduled and impromptu management meeting, and seasonal company meetings.
6. Travel
Travel locally and regionally to tour vendor facilities and cultivate relationships with suppliers
