Backend Engineer (Agentic AI) Peri | Full-time | On-site — Dumbo, Brooklyn, NY $150K–$220K base salary + competitive equity, depending on experience and background About Peri Peri is an AI talent matchmaking company based in NYC. The big idea: build an agent ecosystem for talent, where every person has an agent representing them, and every company has an agent that actually knows what it needs — so the two can talk directly instead of relying on resumes and job descriptions that lose most of the real signal along the way. Right now, your whole career gets compressed onto one page, and a real job gets reduced to a document that's half marketing, half legal boilerplate. Then AI expands your one page back out, and a recruiter who's never met you skims it. We've put humans in the middle of a process that's otherwise fully automated, and lost almost all the signal in the process. What we're building instead is something you actually own — an agent that gets to know you through real conversation and builds a living profile of who you are, closer to a book of your life than a resume, that grows with you over time whether or not you're job-hunting. On the company side, the same idea: an agent that actually understands what a team needs instead of a keyword-matched job post. The bet is that, for the first time, AI can genuinely read the messy human context instead of forcing everything through a resume-shaped filter. About the Role We're looking for a Backend Engineer with 2–6 years of experience to design and build the AI agent infrastructure that powers Peri's consumer product — capturing deep context about people and enabling agent-to-agent conversations at scale. You'll be a thought partner and executor on one of the hardest problems in applied AI: how do you represent a real person as an agent, build up their memory, and facilitate meaningful conversations between agents? What You'll Be Doing Design and build the memory layer for personal AI agents — capturing, retrieving, and persisting context about a person's work, interests, and experiences Architect agent-to-agent conversation infrastructure so a company's agent can meaningfully evaluate and converse with a candidate's agent Own the agent runtime: durable, resumable agent loops that handle tools, human input, and failure recovery Build the privacy and permissions layer — enforcing what an agent knows vs. what it may share, in code, not prompts Work directly with the CTO as a thought partner on what the right infrastructure looks like to do this at scale What We're Looking For 2–6 years of experience in backend engineering, ideally with exposure to agentic AI systems Comfort owning ambiguous, foundational infrastructure problems rather than well-scoped tickets Strong systems thinking — you care as much about durability, failure recovery, and permissions as you do about the happy path Excitement about working in-office, 5 days a week, with a small, fast-moving team Tech Stack AWS, Python, TypeScript, LangChain, Docker Details Compensation: $150K–$220K base salary + competitive equity, depending on experience and background Location: Dumbo, Brooklyn, NY — 5 days in-office Visa sponsorship: Not available (must be a US citizen or Green Card holder) Employment type: Full-time If you want to help build the infrastructure behind a genuinely new way for people and companies to find each other, we'd love to hear from you.
