Job Title: Phlebotomist IJob DescriptionThe main function of a Phlebotomist I is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and make workflow recommendations. This role involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures, explaining the venipuncture process clearly and courteously, and demonstrating techniques using straight and butterfly needles.Responsibilities+ Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate equipment.+ Update patient information and collect/store specimens as per protocols.+ Explain venipuncture and other specimen collection processes clearly to patients.+ Demonstrate phlebotomy techniques using straight and butterfly needles.+ Understand and follow all physician orders accurately.+ Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by the test order.+ Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy.+ Package specimens for transport and store them at required temperatures.+ Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and attend annual department trainings.+ Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Essential Skills+ Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (if required).+ Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.+ High School Diploma or GED.+ 0-2 years of experience.+ Ability to perform 30 draws daily.Additional Skills & Qualifications+ Experience working with pediatric patients.+ Ability to work collaboratively with a team of up to 3 people.+ Color vision required.Work EnvironmentThis position is located at a Patient Service Center (PSC), where the phlebotomist will be expected to stand for most of the day. The role includes two days of e-learning followed by roughly two weeks of hands-on training, depending on the candidate. Although TB testing is required, the candidate may decline the offered Flu and Hep B series. The work environment supports a collaborative team setting.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Wichita, KS.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
