JOB DESCRIPTION – Nurse/LPNTITLE: Nurse LPN/RN FTE: 1.0FLSA STATUS: Non Exempt/Exempt HOURS PER DAY: 8 WORK CALENDAR: 198 daysCOMPENSATION: LPN Classified Non Exempt Compensation Guide (Starting at $27.25 hour)RN Classified Exempt Compensation Guide (Starting at 53,323)Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesTo provide health services for the assigned work site; to maintain appropriate, accurate and required student health records; and to coordinate and work with school nurses at other work sitesProvides instruction, counseling, and guidance to students, parents, staff and others regarding health issuesUpholds professional standards, the Nurse Practice Act, state and local statutes, and District policies and guidelinesMaintains current health records as required by law on each student and compiles and files legally-required reportsEstablishes and maintains a comprehensive school health programMonitors immunization status of current and new students for compliance with lawObtains signed parental permits for routine and emergency careCollects information about the health and developmental status of students in a systematic and continuous mannerMaintains files on current health status of students, on-going medical concerns, and known allergies, respecting students' rights to privacy and confidentialityProvides appropriate nursing interventions and monitors student status as neededProvides for continuity of care upon transfer or graduationCoordinates service provision with IHS staff members and other sources of community health care as neededProvides or makes referrals for follow-up careDevelops a nursing care plan with specific goals and interventions related to students with special needsImplements actions that promote or restore health and effect rehabilitation, assesses student responses and collaborates with other professionals to achieve optimal levels of wellness and learningParticipates in IEP conferences when appropriateProvides staff education related to specific student needsStores, logs, and dispenses over-the-counter and prescription medication to studentsAccording to physicians' standing orders and the Nurse Practice ActAssists students, families and school personnel to achieve optimal levels of wellness through health educationMaintains confidential emergency treatment information for staff membersProvides ongoing monitoring of blood pressure, blood sugar, etc. as needed by staff and students, as well as appropriate education related to individual health needsParticipates in the health curriculum committeeParticipates in in-service training programsAssists school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in schoolsParticipates in interviews, screenings and recommendation of nursing personnel for employmentSupervises and trains new employeesPerforms Arizona state mandated health, vision and hearing screening, and maintains annual hearing machine calibrationCompletes annual Arizona state mandated immunization screening reports and hearing reports.Files reports of suspected abuse/neglect when initial contactAdministers annual bloodborne pathogen inservice for all school staffCompletes employee incident and workman's compensation evaluations and assessments.Coordinates biohazard quarterly pick-upBudgets and orders medical suppliesMaintain confidentiality of information regarding students, staff, parents and school issuesProvide a welcoming atmosphere for students, staff, parents and communityPerform responsibilities in an ethical and professional mannerMaintain punctual and regular attendancePerform other related duties as assignedKnowledge, Skills And Abilities RequiredTo perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must possess current Hearing Screening Certificate Must have and maintain a valid IVP Arizona Fingerprint Clearance CardExperience Recent experience in the fields of public health nursing, and/or school nursing is desirable.
