Cloud Engineer PrincipalThis is a hybrid position located in Memphis TN, Plano TX, or Pittsburg PA. Candidates must live within 50 miles of the campus location. Employees will be required to work at the FedEx campus location several times per week.About the RoleTakes end-to-end ownership and responsibility over critical engineering initiatives including deployment, integration, and management of private, public, and/or hybrid cloud platform services supporting the development of complex analytical applications at enterprise scale. Champions safe and scalable environment provisioning while protecting accessibility to data assets residing within FedEx network. Sets the standards for sizing, building, deploying, managing, and monitoring fault-tolerant, 24/7 application infrastructure. Manages the infrastructure as code using scripts, templates, blueprints, workflows, CI/CD orchestration tools, and other automation technologies in the spirit of speed and consistency.Continuously collaborates with a variety of managers, architects, vendors, stakeholders, business owners, and peer engineering teams ensuring deployed services meet business needs with the highest levels of scalability, reliability, and performance while balancing security, maintainability, reliability, and operational excellence. Advises junior engineers, managers, and those in less senior positions. Provides mentorship and guidance to junior cloud engineers to support the continued training and up-skilling of the Cloud engineering team.Knowledge, Skills, AbilitiesStrong leader / mentorshipStrong oral and written communication skillsGCP or other major cloud platform experienceConfluent Cloud administrationDemonstrable understanding of the 7 layers of the OSI Network ModeConversant in system administration skills and tasks that a well-rounded technologist may need to performExperience with one or more programming languagesAutomation and scripting in Powershell and BashDevOps and CICD pipelines – github actionsExcellent interpersonal skills and the ability to present and communicate effectively to executive audiencesKubernetes experience either with GKE/AKS or managing your own Kubernetes clusterMust have: Terraform, Yaml configurations, Shell scripting, KubernetesExperience in alert management and root cause analysisExperience with monitoring stack (Dynatrace, Prometheus, Grafana)Experience in completing difficult projects, e.g. programming project, system admin, large deployment or migration projectsExperience with Java or PythonExperience with data analytical infrastructure - Dataflow, GCS, BigQueryExperience with AI – GCP AI Foundation, Vertex AIMinimum EducationBachelor's Degree/equivalent in computer science, engineering, or information systems and/or related quantitative discipline. Directly related PhD preferred.Minimum ExperienceSeven plus (7+) years' work experience in cloud engineering or related field. Strong experience providing leadership in a general planning or consulting setting. Strong experience as a leader or a senior member of multi-function project teams.
