Controller - Long Beach, CaliforniaPay Range: $175,000 to $200,000OverviewWe are seeking a high impact and detail oriented Controller to lead the accounting operations for a large and growing real estate portfolio based in Long Beach. This role is ideal for someone who brings strong technical accounting expertise, proven leadership experience, and the ability to translate financial data into meaningful insights for senior leadership. You will oversee financial reporting, internal controls, budgeting, treasury functions, and the overall integrity of the company's accounting systems.Position SummaryThe Controller serves as the key link between the accounting team and senior leadership. You will manage all accounting functions, ensure accurate and compliant financial reporting, and provide strategic financial guidance that supports operational and investment decisions. This role requires strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and a deep understanding of real estate accounting.Key ResponsibilitiesLead month end and year end closing processesOversee preparation and consolidation of financial statements in accordance with GAAPSupervise, coach, and mentor Senior and Staff AccountantsMaintain and enhance internal controls and accounting policiesLead the annual budgeting process and provide variance analysis and financial insightsOversee daily cash operations, intercompany reimbursements, and cash flow monitoringEnsure compliance with lender covenants including DSCR requirementsManage accounting for property acquisitions and dispositionsOversee property tax schedules, insurance renewals, and business tax filingsMaintain the general ledger and chart of accounts within EntrataEnsure data integrity and optimize accounting systems for efficiencyProvide clear financial reporting and recommendations to senior leadershipQualifications RequiredSeven to ten years of progressive accounting experienceAt least two years in a supervisory or management roleReal estate or property management industry experienceBachelor degree in Accounting or FinanceStrong knowledge of GAAP and internal control frameworksAdvanced Excel skillsExperience with property management software such as EntrataAbility to communicate complex financial information clearlyPreferredCPA licenseSQL proficiencyExperience with multi state real estate financial regulationsPersonal CompetenciesStrong attention to detail and accuracyResults oriented mindset with the ability to meet tight deadlinesAbility to work independently and collaborativelyStrong leadership and team development skillsAbility to maintain confidential information and organize complex dataBenefitsMedical, dental, and vision insurance with dependent coverage optionsLife insurance and disability insurance401K with employer matchingTen vacation days per year to startSix paid sick daysPaid holidaysRent discounts for eligible employees
