Details: Title: Host/ess Position Type: Full-Time/Part-time Schedule: Weekdays, Weekends, AM/PM Pay Range: The starting pay for this position is $17.00 per hour. This is the pay for this position that Outrigger Canoe Club reasonably expects to pay. Decisions regarding individual pay will be based on a number of factors, such as experience and education. Position Summary: Outrigger Canoe Club is a members only private club. We host two dining rooms and a full service bar, club-wide events and private banquets right on the beach in Waikiki. As a host/ess, you are the first impression when walking down the steps into the restaurants and are responsible for providing a friendly face and welcoming demeanor. Core Responsibilities: The job duties listed below are an overview of the essential duties and measures required to be successful in the position. Follow the direction of the Lead Coordinator and guide members to assigned tables Move tables/floor plan to accommodate larger parties and pre-set tables for evening reservations Memorize club hours and policies Use a radio to communicate to other hosts Answer all incoming calls to create reservations Manage take-out phone orders Physical Demands: Able to stand for full 5-6 hour shift Able to lift 10lbs to 25lbs Must be quick and walk with a purpose during your shifts, this is a fast pace restaurant Able to practice excellent phone customer service Must be able to commute to Waikiki with reliable transportation General Requirements: Education High School Degree or equivalent Experience Experience in hospitality or related guest service environment Qualifications Must be a dependable, outgoing, and a self-motivated person Ability to multitask while remaining calm and professional Excellent customer service and hospitality skills Excellent oral and written communication skills Attention to detail Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure, with composure Teamwork attitude, ability to work interdepartmentally Maintains regular attendance, is consistently on time and complies with Outrigger Canoe Club standards Scheduling flexibility to meet operational needs About the Outrigger: Founded at a critical time when Hawaiian water sports faced extinction, the Outrigger Canoe Club emerged in 1908, aiming to preserve and promote ancient activities like surfing and outrigger canoeing. Initially situated on prime beachfront land in Waikiki, the club weathered challenges and relocation to its Diamond Head location in 1963. Notable for its iconic clubhouse the Outrigger has thrived over nearly 100 years. From its humble grass houses to the modern facility, the club has been a hub for water sports enthusiasts worldwide, hosting events like the 4th of July Walter Macfarlane Regatta and even contributing to the birth of beach volleyball. Today, with a membership exceeding 4000, the Outrigger Canoe Club remains a symbol of aloha and a dedicated custodian of Hawaiian aquatic traditions.
