Project Manufacturing Engineer

Job Title: Manufacturing EngineerJob DescriptionWe are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to play a critical role in transitioning a hydrogen fuel cell truck platform from prototype development into manufacturing. This position involves developing clear, accurate, and production-ready work instructions to support assembly operations. You will collaborate closely with Engineering, Operations, Quality, and Assembly teams to translate prototype builds and engineering intent into standardized manufacturing processes. The role is hands-on and highly collaborative, requiring strong technical understanding, documentation skills, and the ability to operate effectively in a low-volume, high-complexity production environment.Responsibilities+ Develop, author, and maintain detailed assembly work instructions for manufacturing and installation processes.+ Translate engineering drawings, schematics, and build procedures into clear, operator-friendly documentation.+ Define step-by-step assembly sequences, tooling requirements, torque values, safety steps, and quality checkpoints.+ Ensure work instructions align with actual shop-floor processes and validate through build support.+ Capture tribal knowledge, prototype build learnings, and engineering intent to establish repeatable assembly processes.+ Identify gaps between prototype builds and manufacturable processes, escalating risks and proposing solutions.+ Provide hands-on support during initial production builds to validate work instructions and assembly flow.+ Partner with assembly technicians to refine instructions based on real-world execution and feedback.+ Support Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and ensure documentation remains current.Essential Skills+ Experience with work instruction, new product introduction, and lean manufacturing.+ Ability to work with technicians to document work instructions for new products.+ Familiarity with lean manufacturing practices, technical writing, and Six Sigma.+ Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.+ 2+ years of experience supporting manufacturing, assembly, or production engineering activities.+ Demonstrated experience creating and maintaining manufacturing work instructions or standardized assembly documentation.+ Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications.+ Comfort working in early-stage or prototype environments with evolving designs and processes.+ Strong written communication skills with the ability to simplify complex technical content for operators.+ Ability to work on the shop floor and support hands-on builds as needed.Additional Skills & Qualifications+ Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.Work EnvironmentThe work environment involves spending most of the time on the floor with technicians. While technicians work four 10-hour days, engineers typically work five 8-hour days. The assignment is short-term, lasting 13 weeks, with the possibility of extension.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Charlotte, NC.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
