Purchasing Agent
Technique, Inc. is looking for a Purchasing Agent to join our team at our Jackson, Michigan facility. This position reports to the Supply Chain Manager and is responsible for negotiating vendor terms, prices, and scheduling delivery using knowledge of budget and schedule requirements. Working safely, working overtime, and flexibility in work schedule are essential functions of this position. This position has no supervisory responsibilities.The ideal candidate brings a minimum of 2 years of purchasing-related experience with knowledge of material grades, vendor negotiation, and purchase order management. Strong computer skills, excellent communication, and the ability to work effectively on cross-functional teams are critical factors in this role.Responsibilities – Purchasing Agent Level 1:Obtain request for quotes – Obtain request for quotes from vendors using basic knowledge of material gradesConfirm purchase orders – Ensure confirmation of each purchase orderFile purchase orders – Electronically file purchase ordersMonitor material ETAs – Monitor estimated time of arrival of materialCoordinate pick-ups – Coordinate pick-ups with the shipping departmentNegotiate with suppliers – Negotiate with suppliers and make reasonable decisions quicklySeek continuous improvements – Seek continuous improvements in purchasing processes and vendor relationshipsResponsibilities – Purchasing Agent Level 2 (requires competency in Level 1 functions):Read blueprints and understand specifications – Read blueprints and understand specifications with firm knowledge of material gradesProcess vendor returns – Process vendor returns in E2Maintain kirksite record – Maintain kirksite recordMaintain inventory levels – Maintain proper inventory levels for stock material and placement of re-order tagsCreate outside service pack lists – Create outside service pack listsNew vendor processing – Handle new vendor processing and setupMaintain Smart Cell and office supply closet – Maintain Smart Cell and office supply closetRequirements:High school diploma or equivalentMinimum of 2 years of purchasing-related experience or demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the above-mentioned tasksBasic computer skills (Outlook, Excel, Word); advanced computer skills required for Level 2Excellent communication skillsAbility to work effectively on cross-functional teamsAbility to prioritize workProblem solving skillsFrequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 poundsOccasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computerSpecific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focusComfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to fumes or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, moving mechanical parts, industrial equipment, vibration, and loud noiseNo travel expected for this positionMust be eligible to work in the United States, either by means of U.S. Citizenship, Work Visa, or H1B sponsorship.
