Candidates will arrange/schedule transportation via ground ambulances and air transport, utilizing WV OEMS crew configuration standards. Utilization of a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system to accomplish the tasks is essential.Minimum QualificationsEducation, Certification, and/or Licensure:High School Diploma or Equivalent.Preferred QualificationsExperience:Two years of experience as a call dispatcher.Current West Virginia Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic Certification.Core Duties and ResponsibilitiesAbility to answer phone calls from both internal and external customers to ensure that all hospital policies are being met and to provide the customers with the best service available.Safely directs and coordinates communications with ground ambulances and helicopters. Monitors location and maintains communication with ground ambulances and helicopters to fulfill MedCom regulations. Follows progress of ground vehicles as well as aircraft when needed.Ability to multi-task to coordinate ground ambulances and aircraft to ensure the safe delivery of the customers that utilize our services.Ability to learn the operations of our CAD system to ensure that information is being properly entered to utilize all ground and air crews efficiently.Call-Taking: Answer incoming phone calls in a timely manner while assisting and directing the call in the appropriate manner.Obtain necessary, required information to activate a computer aided dispatch (CAD) record.Consistently follow standardized call-taking and information gathering process.Enter all transport request information in dispatch software in real-time.Assist dispatching job role, as necessary.Complete all necessary request documentation including post transportDispatching: Quickly recognize transport requests that appear in the Open Work screen of the CAD that may have been added by another communicator or dispatcher.Determine the mode of transportation required for the request and determine the status of the request.Utilize the CAD system to ensure the closest, available, appropriate resource is activated.Notify appropriate resource and receive acceptance of the request.Monitor and track all vehicle movements ensuring proper information is being given and received for all mode of transportAlert specific receiving hospital departments of all transport updates.Complete all necessary request documentation including post transport.Assist with call taking job role, as necessary.Physical RequirementsAbility to sit for long periods of time at a work station.Ability to reach and grasp with arms and hands.Normal hearing ability.Working EnvironmentSKILLS AND ABILITIES:Ability to work flexible schedule.Ability to effectively multi-task.Ability to operate radio technology.Ability to verbally communicate clearly and precisely in stressful situations.Proficient typing skills.Knowledge of basic computer skills.Knowledge of medical terminology.Work requires interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with internal and external personnel in stressful situations and to act as a representative of WVU Medicine to the public.Must demonstrate alertness at all times and be able to withstand high amounts of stress.Additional Job DescriptionScheduled Weekly Hours: 36Shift: Varied (United States of America)Exempt/Non-Exempt: United States America (Non-Exempt)Company: WVUH West Virginia University HospitalsCost Center: 54 WVUH Nursing Medical Command CenterAddress: 3040 University Ave Morgantown West VirginiaEqual Opportunity EmployerWest Virginia University Health System and its subsidiaries (collectively "WVUHS") is an equal opportunity employer and complies with all applicable federal, state, and local fair employment practices laws.
