Structural Engineer (contingent upon contract award) with Security Clearance

The Structural Engineer provides professional engineering support for the planning, design, evaluation, technical review, and maintenance of structural systems supporting facilities and infrastructure at Misawa Air Base. This role delivers critical engineering expertise to ensure structural integrity, safety, and compliance across U.S. and host-nation funded construction programs. The position supports the 35th Civil Engineer Squadron (CES) in a high-tempo environment managing an annual portfolio valued at approximately $80M–$120M. Key Responsibilities Structural Engineering & Design Develop and review structural designs, calculations, and specifications for new construction and renovation projectsPerform structural analysis to ensure safety, stability, and compliance with applicable codes and standardsSupport planning and programming through feasibility studies and engineering recommendations Technical Review & Compliance Conduct technical reviews of design packages, shop drawings, and contractor submittalsEnsure compliance with U.S. Air Force standards, international building codes, and host-nation (Japan) requirementsProvide engineering support during construction to resolve structural issues and discrepancies Project Coordination & Support Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including architects, engineers, and construction personnelParticipate in design reviews, project meetings, and progress updatesProvide input on cost estimates, schedules, and constructability Inspection & Assessment Perform site inspections and structural assessments to identify deficiencies and recommend corrective actionsEvaluate existing structures for repair, rehabilitation, or upgradesSupport lifecycle management of facilities and infrastructure assets Documentation & Reporting Prepare engineering reports, calculations, and technical documentationMaintain accurate records to ensure compliance with program and regulatory requirementsSupport data tracking, reporting, and engineering databases Program Support Assist with program management functions including cost, schedule, and financial trackingSupport GIS and infrastructure data systems, as applicableRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (Structural emphasis required)5–10 years of experience in structural engineering, design, analysis, or construction supportStrong knowledge of structural engineering principles, materials, and building codesExperience developing and reviewing engineering calculations and drawingsProficiency in structural analysis and design softwarePreferred QualificationsProfessional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtainExperience supporting U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) or overseas construction projectsFamiliarity with Japanese building codes and host-nation requirementsExperience with seismic design and analysis (highly desirable)Knowledge of GIS systems and engineering data platformsCore CompetenciesStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsHigh attention to detail and technical accuracyEffective communication and coordination across multidisciplinary teamsAbility to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
