Job Duties:Apply complex theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of animal breeding to develop improved programs to improve the genetic composition and reproductive health of our animals to maximize animal reproductive potential and capacity.Oversees and implements effective animal breeding protocolsEnsures that proper protocols are followed during difficult calving and feeding of newborn calvesImplements improved programs in areas such as sick/pregnant cow treatment, calving, and animal nutritionManages feed intake in the maternity areaMonitors overall herd healthPerforms related professional dutiesTransport newborn baby calves to the calf hutch barnMaintain accurate records of new fresh cows and calvesInventory supplies in the maternity areaProcessing, vaccinating, and pregnancy-checking new heifers as they arriveFeeding and processing newborn calvesCommunicate with the manager on problems that need to be resolvedRespect and work with others that work in the maternity areaOperate machinery such as a skid-steer loader, Mensch scraper, and John Deere gator
